So I was just thinking. There was never a G1 oriented playset every made. If you think, the 80s was the golden era of large playsets. You had the USS Flagg for GI Joe, the Command Center and Thruster (and almost a Gobotron) for Gobots, Tower of Doom for Secret Wars, Hall of Justice for Super Powers etc etc. And yet, Transformers never got one. You'd have thought an Ark playset would have been a sure thing based on the era.

Any thoughts why this never happened? Was Hasbro just making way too much making robots that they figured they were better off just sticking to that?

IMO Metroplex, Scorponok, Trypticon, Fort Max et al were all playsets.

They always said some crap about the playset had to transform which is why we got Metroplex and the like. igear's Teletraan 1 is a great playset once you glue it together. And as much as people trashed it, it is now SOLD OUT everywhere. I need 2 more of them to increase the size of my Ark. Let me know if anyone wants to get rid of theirs, we can do business.

Well, there was that crappy cardboard playset...

I've always wanted "true" playsets as well, but what are you gonna do? "They must Transform"
Hopefully Cyberverse moves into a future Classics-styled line...they could do some very cool small scale G1 playsets.

Well, I wouldn't exactly say it had to transform (like Metroplex or similar). I honestly was more thinking along the lines of a Gobot Command Center type set, one that would be a ship, and the ship would then open up to reveal stuff like in igears playset.

What I meant by that, is that that's Hasbro's excuse for why they never made any non-transformable toys in the Transformers line for a while.

Oh really? Then what do you call those movie toys that are just vehicles with a sculpture of the robot mode stuck on the bottom?

I said "for a while"; at a certain point, they started doing non-transformable toys...I think it was Heroes of Cybertron that started that in the US (even Action Masters had transformable accessories/vehicles).

I'd say the RPMs do sort of 'transform' since the robot is on the bottom. Standing the vehicle up to show the robot is the transformation, as simple as that is.

    Doh.

They should reissue the old Micromaster base sets. Those were awesome.
