Hypothetical situation: Hasbro is sufficiently impressed with the KOs (the individuals responsible for G1 Mirage) to buy out the amateurs producing them.

They take the existing product and slap a "Copyright Hasbro 2008" sticker on the already-printed boxes. It is then sold exactly as before.

    Would you purchase them then?

Note that this question is not for those who oppose them for financial reasons or their own dislike of G1.

I would! And why not? In fact, I believe the QC would be even better! :D

If it is an official Hasbro/ Takaratomy product, then I would consider buying it.

If they were at sold at say $19.99 or $24.99 something more like retail TF prices I would buy them for sure.

If Has-Tak-Tom used the KO mold and made their own, I would buy that. Not repackaged KO's at inflated prices that have Has-Tak-Tom stickers. I don't mind KO's, but why buy a KO Metroplex or Sky Lynx if you still own complete Cherry Originals? I just get mad at people who try to sell KO's as originals, a.k.a. Bootlegs. I really like the multiple KO Mirage figures too, but this is a hard year to invest in any KOs when there is so much real Transformers goodness out there.

If it also meant the gaffes in quality were corrected, like Wax Sculpture Swoop? Sure. Not at the current price points they want though.

They would have to make the quality much better and more consistent for that to work. I know Hasbro has its own QC issues (movie dlx Brawl I'm looking at you) but these KOs have had at times very major quality issues that would make them almost unreleasable. Doesn't help that they wouldn't be 'reissues'.

Perhaps answering your question more directly, if Hasbro bought them out they would surely alter the trademark stamp from its original (at least location of production) and change the boxes from trying to be passable as vintage, which would get rid of my main two problems with them as they are now.

If someone stole your car, would you want to pay the thief to get it back?

For me, it would depend on the character being made, and the price of it, as there aren't that many G1 toys I'm interested in at all. It would also depend on how available they were, but in the end, the price would be the main factor in my end decision.

KO's are theft plain and simple

if hasbro made them their own and they were officially licensed I would buy them in a heartbeat but only if the QC is sorted out, I bought a gold prime a while back to see what KO's were like and wasnt impressed and traded it

hence, the query being hypothetical. which in this case, implies the OP realizing that it would in reality, impractical.

its more of a exercise in rationalizing buyers preference/non-preference for KOs, and not addressing the possibility of such a thing happening in the 1st place.

    reading comprehension FTW.

If they fixed the quality of the molds, used better plastic, and made the figures that fall into the same range as the other $20 re-issued only cost $20 instead of 60-70, and didn't try to pretend it was a vintage, sure.
