GAAAH! BUGS! INSECTICONS COMING OFF THE WALLS! GRAB THE RAID!

This is a set of Insecticons done by using some cheap, knock-off insect bots I found a liquidating Kay Bee toystore in Potomac Mills (south of the DC area.)

The great thing about these guys is that their molds and Krylon Fusion are a match made in heaven. Never have I had so much quick luck with applying Fusion paint and it immediately adhering. A few yellow, purple and silver paint apps later, one more spray with the glosscoat...et voila! Another Insecticon joins the ranks. These were great fun to build and had a quick turnaround time.

Oh those are so awesome Ops!!! Did you have to do any cleaning on them as far as trimming flash and stuff?? I got some knock-off aerial-bots that I had to do a lot of cleaning and trimming on.

Yes, I had to do LOADS of trimming flash. I think the mold-makers held their master molds together with rubber bands or something because the plastic had spilled over in so many places on these little things.

However, I did leave some over-mold issues on, particularly around the joints. As a matter of fact, I oversprayed the joints with Fusion so that it'd provide a tighter fit. You probably had the same experience with those Arialbots - they're floppy and loose and can't stand up!

Very nice. I'm still wishing one of these days that Hasbro or Takara would give us what I've wanted since I was a little boy watching G1: an Insecticon combiner.

an insecticon combiner would be freaking sweet. i wonder how hard it would be to use all the different insect robots out there and combine them. granted the poor quality of the plastic and poor quality of the figures overall would effect the figure but it would be cool anyway.

You know, it wouldn't be hard to do an insecticon combiner simply using the existing '85-'86 combiners...If you had access to Seacons it'd be even easier...You'd just have to do some parts-switches on the top of the "car-on-my-back" Stunticons or Combaticons and add a few limbs.

Haha, and I call that "not hard." Oh, the irony of easier said than done...
