I'm headed towards the end of the G1 show, and I want to start watching G2 before I re-watch Beast Wars. But my question is: Exactly what is G2? What's the show called, are there multiple shows to it (like the Unicron trilogy) and are the episodes in a messed up order like the G1 cartoon? All I know about it is apparently it failed and supposedly the toys revolutionized the transformer toy line. Any and all answers would be awesome, and much appreciated.
Here you go, but if your not impressed its not my fault lol...... YouTube - Transformers Generation 2 Episode 2 Part 1/3
no prob..... As I guess all the shit effect may have been cool back then to some but they really always pissed me off
So what episodes of G1 where "enhanced" for G2? Did they do the entire series, or just certain episodes? Is there list somewhere of what episodes were released as the G2 cartoon?
Here is a link, I did not go through everything to confirm it was correct though Episode list for "Transformers: Generation 2, The"
The opening is the only sequence which actually features G2 characters. The G2 comic is the better representation of the fiction, to be honest. Although it is based on the G1 comic universe.
And IIRC, G2 comic was only about 12 issues long which, from all the praise i have heard for it, makes that sad to know.
There were 5 tied in with G.I. Joe, which serve in a way as a prequel to the branded 12 issue run. Those 5 issues essentially transisitioned from the end of G1's Marvel comics to the start of the new series (Well, really mostly just Megatrons story, but it's a good one!). While you can read it for yourself at a number of sites and interviews, G2's comic was clearly destined for failure, hence everyone knowing that it would only get the 12 issues promised and not a continuation, resulting in a really good tight story. Years ago, all the Marvel Comics used to be online thanks to the fandom, so you could download every issue and read them yourself without having to track down or buy the issues. I spent a whole summer nearly 10 years ago reading the entire runs of G1 and G2. Fun times, but that was before RiD and all that, and the files were taken down when they started rereleasing the comics from the original run again. As for the G2 cartoon. Well, IMHO, it's unwatchable, those cube graphics really mess with the pacing and flow of the episode.
The G2 trade paperbacks are worth the money IMO. If you have a comic shop nearby, they might have the trades or maybe some back issues. Worth flipping through to see if the art style is your thing. Storywise it's tight and action-packed, like Pravus said.
Thanks for the info Backstop! So call me crazy (and I'm sure many will) but I'd be down for a G2 DVD boxset with the cybercube, the dumb pop-ups, and the whole bit. I know it's just G1 rehashed, but I think it would be interesting to have both DVD sets to watch and compare. If the entire G1 series had been done, I wouldn't be interested, but for just 50 or so episodes, sign me up. That's something they could cram onto two four-disk boxsets. Sell each for around $35 and I'd buy it. Just my opinion though.
Ah yes the dreaded G2 Cybertron space cube or whatever that damn thing was, back in the day I had all 98 episodes of G1 on VHS tapes and half of them were unfortunately recorded from the G2 butcher job.
We only got one DVD of it over here and it gave me a such a headache watching them, what with all the whirling and flipping. How anyone thought it was a good idea is beyond me as it took me right out of the episode when things got flippy. I would like to own the whole set on DVD though, just for completion's sake.
