I'd like add my thanks, also! I don't make it out to the various 'Cons, so its very cool when folks like Vangelus take time to do, and to post these kinds of interviews. Thank you! As a tangent, I'm kinda surprised Hasbro/Takara don't do these sorta things in some "official" capacity? Seems it could only be good publicity... kurt
Maybe in the future, we could get them to really explain how to "break into" the toy design business. I do often wonder what it takes to be apply for a job like that.
One of the best interviews I have seen. Great questions and interaction with Mark. Some nice behind the scenes discussions. Very interested in more designer videos/discussions. Vangelus is a natural
Was really impressed by how into the franchise he himself was. I'm also curious about what his SDCC set would have been.
Wonderful interview. Thanks for bringing this to us, Vangelus! I really enjoyed how much of a fan Mark seems to be. I know that as a company, Hasbro makes mistakes from time to time in the eyes of us fans but considering the monstrosity of a machine that is behind this franchise, we're lucky for the many bones thrown to the long term and/or diehard fans. It's one thing to have fanboys working as toy designers and in R&D but when you have someone who is as enthusiastic as Mark is at the head of global brand management, it really helps get fan-centric projects off the ground and developed into products. I really like what he had to say about Windblade and Chromia as characters that aren't specifically written as girls but written as heroic charactes. To have someone in a key position like Mark be a fan of and in the know about something like the IDW comics gives me great hope in the healthy future of Transformers as a franchise that is intending to reach out to the children customer base and not just a single gender. I got a kick out of Mark's closing anecdote about his lack of a hat being a matter of circumference and not a lack of interest. "Your head...is going to be a problem." Haha, classic!
