    I have faith in her.

Her desire to write the female transformers in amazing ways runs deep and true, to the point where she can compete with Roberts and Barber on sheer enthusiasm.

As do I. Here's hoping that she'll live up to the expectation! Bring in the well written females.

As someone who does not require a diagrammatic explanation as to how females can exist in a fictional world populated with walking-talking-gender endowed robots, I have faith M.S. will know what to do here.

I don't see the big deal..surely Cybertonians throught the ages have either met biological Aliens or lifeforms, and studied them.

If they would have studied them, then its safe to say they would have found BENEFIT to having "female" gender.

I don't care what anyone says..there IS a difference between the genders in biology. Women excel at fine motor skills, nurturing, and overall, giving a DIVERSITY that cybertronians may have idolized...Therefore it is extremely likely that they would have tried to duplicate this.

Many TFs are "specialized" in some fields, but during creation, maybe "male" and "female" bots would be given an archetypical skillset/mentality.

im sure they would have also envied the ferocity displayed by a biological mother defending her brood.

I see some neat stuff out of this..but I don't think this is taboo...just run with it. It makes sense to me cybertronians would, eventually explore the mystery of the female...HELL..we haven't figured em out here on earth yet! ;)

An author who's willing to take on the female-characters with more aplomb than the "EEEK, robo boobs, it must be an abomination!!!" gurlz-ar-wrongs-LOLZ!! BS most modern writers have been pulling out of their asses for the last decade or so....I'm in shock.

An author who is DETERMINED to make the gender-issue a central point of world-building? Yeah, this might actually get me to read a damn comic.

Bravo to the editorial staff for making this happen.

I've always assumed that each race has a female and male, so robotic women are no issue for me. (There are the Namekians, but that's another story entirely...)

I hope she makes WinDblade a strong and well-developed character.

I've been saying for awhile now that there's an easy way to explain new female Transformers in the IDW comics. Now that they subconsciously have the concept of gender, simply have some identifying themselves as male or female. Others decide they don't have any interest in gender at all. For instance, Shockwave wouldn't care.

I'll read it because I like the artist and want to see how she handles drawing a full on comic.

As for Scott meh. She wrote what I consider to be some of the worst and most annoying episodes of Prime and her work for the BH has been between mostly mediocre.

But it is a first time a full female team on anything Transformers related so I'll give it a shot, but frankly I'm as far away as possible from hype.

I just hope this isn't going to have some kind of agenda-based theme behind it. I just want Cybetron-related stories, not leftist political commentary to creep into a comic book that I read to my son.

Strong female characters are great, robot or otherwise, just don't expect me to be happy if it's all a facade for real life gender-issues and commentary on present-day strife. Let's hope it's kept fun and light without a heavy-handed memorandum for NOW.

I'm glad that the IDW writers are addressing this issue instead of just brushing it aside and laughing it off as a PC publicity stunt (as someone once quoted, "What you dismissively call PC, I call my everyday life."). That said, I remain guarded as to how they'll handle this without botching it like they did with Arcee's ham-fisted origin story.

There may be some folks who just look at this issue and just shrug, going, "Cybertronians are genderless robots. Who the eff cares?" Seems a lot of fans (and the writers) care, and the writers/designers are still human and can (and do) incorporate their own hang-ups and internalized sexist (and racist) issues into what they create and market to us (and our children). So the issue is an important one that shouldn't be discounted or simply glossed over.

I think I like the way the Aligned Universe has decided to deal with Gender in the new big Covenant of Primus book.

SPOILERS for there if you havn't read it yet...

With the profile for Solus Prime we get Alpha Trion’s explanation for Transformers Gender in the Aligned Continuity.

It is basically that there are 2 distinct types of Transformers, this division is a facet of how their brains work. Solus Prime and Transformers patterned after her have a unique information processing system with a “vast capacity for wide-ranging and parallel thought processing” different from the other 12/13ths of the species. (A difference necessary to work her Forge in the manner she did) When contact with bi-gendered organic species was made it was decided to adopt their terminology and refer to the Solus-types as parallel to organic “females” and with gender words used accordingly and the non-Solus types as “male.”

It’s kinda unclear if the fact that the Solus-processing types also have a strong tendency to resemble humanoid females in terms of shape, personality/psychology, and voice (and vice versa for the “males”) had anything to do with this linguistic/cultural decision, or if we are meant to ignore that “lucky coincidence.”

It's not perfect. I personally prefer Animateds "They just are, it doesn't need addressing" approach, but this isn't a bad second choice imo.

-ZacWilliam, and the book does almost give us a Chomedome/Rewind relationship with Prowl and Bluestreak's fairly close friendship which felt very IDW.

i don't think they need explaining... but i like to pretend formal gender for cybertronians is basically a social thing and not needed for procreation

Me too. Which is basically the way the G1 toon and Animated did it.

-ZacWilliam, but if you have to go deeper I'm fine with the Covenant's deeper, ie it's the result of a biological difference in the species and how their brains function, a binary distinctive system, just not one connected to reproduction.

I think the covenant explanation is awful, personally.

Also, as a transwoman, I'm delighted that Scott is at bare minimum familiar with the issue with Arcee and transgender/cisgender terminology. There are plenty of people who don't even know that much.

I am going say I am intrigue. It is a social/function thing I can not see Bulkhead being an agile ninja close combat specialist that relies on speed and dex to get the job done. I agree they don't need to explain gender.

Care to give any reason for that?

The fact that there exist two distinct types of Cybertronians biologically and one kind of parallels human females in some ways, so on meeting bi-gendered organoc species they decide to adopt their terminologies for said division works fine for me.

-ZacWilliam, TFs it is established even outside this example like to adopt facets of the cultures they contact.
