awesome story and i highly doubt the MPAA will touch the guy as they would get hit with a media shitstorm of biblical proportions, they will likely just try to ignore the guy and let the story die as quickly as possible.

When Decepticon piracy no longer threatens the earth & its inhabitants.

Jokes aside though, what Grimlock said.

"He pirated hundreds of thousands of films!"

"I'm pretty sure at least one of those films featured actions he participated in. Sorry, argument invalid."

This looks like an interesting collision of two great Sacred Cows in the American psyche.

I don't think any actual people are going to side with big media against a member of the greatest generation.

Well the responses over on The Escapist (which has laxer rules regarding discussion than we do) seem to fall into three camps:

-Fuck yeah this guy is awesome.

-This is pretty cool but what he did was wrong.

    -When does his trial start?

Apparantly there's some thingn with copyright or IP law where if you don't pursue someone who has broken it, you may not be able to puruse others. And lets be fair; these are good intentions from a man who's been through worse with less and succeeded, but this kind of enterprise is pretty big for something not directly involved with organised crime.

As I understand it, the rights of companies to turn fair profit and protect their property from infringment is a big part of Free Enterprise in the US, but as you say, he was also in World War II and a member of the greatest generation. To me this really looks like two Sacred Cows coming to blows.

technically both parties can be appeased, the movie companies could pursue him in court but they could impose the fine they seek, so essentially they can sue him and settle for $1, by this action, they keep their stance on movie piracy alive and well, and avoid a Public relations nightmare.

its more along the line of saving face for both parties.
