I was just watching it and I started to think was this movie played worldwide or just in select theatres. The movie came out 7 years before I was born so I have no idea.

It saw release all across the U.S. I seem to remember, but I'm not sure about the rest of the world. I heard Japan didn't get it until the 1990's, but I could be wrong.

Pretty sure select theaters. I don't remember seeing it at theaters where I grew up.

    Worldwide, but limited.

It was a nationwide release, though being an Animated film in the time when that usually meant "Disney", but wasn't a G rated Disney movie meant that not every theatre carried it. The international release came sometime after the US one rather then any kind of simultaneous launch.

It was limited. The theater in my town wasn't carrying it. We had go to the next town over to see it.

Yup, saw it in Richmond Picture House, aged 7, with my cousin. Who I went to see DotM with last night.

We know which we enjoyed more.

Kenora got it, so the theaters couldn't have been that 'select'. ;)

It's funny when I hear it had a small release with no ads. That must have varied from place to place because I grew up outside of Toronto Canada and watched Transformers on a Buffalo station. That summer every episode of Transformers had an Ad for the movie. I was very aware of it coming out. And the Commander Tom Sunday morning show had a clip of the underwater scene before it came out to promote it.
In the paper it had a decent size ad in the movies section. And my local theater had it.
All this did not help convince my parents to take me. They said if a movie is any good they will put it on TV for free. Even though it did finally make it to TV I saw it for the 1st time on VHS for my Birthday. We didn't own a VCR then so my parents had to rent the machine and the video for my birthday. I can't be sure but I think that was more expensive then it would have been to take me to the theater.

I was 16 and the ads seemed to be limited to the transformers show times. Saw it opening night at a theater a few towns away but after that found one closer.

I was only five years old when the movie came out, so I have no idea how long the movie was in theaters or how many theaters aired the movie. I can tell you that I did see the movie in theaters with my cousin, who introduced me to the world of Transformers, and my dad.

When I was 10, I had no idea there was going to be a movie until I saw the trailer before "Flight of the Navigator". A few days later was my 11th birthday, and my dad drove me to the only theater in 30 miles showing it.
