Michael Bay made some comments about TF4 in an interview for the Forbes:

So, basically a reboot.

 

I like how Michael acts like he wasn't commanded to redesign everything. Yes Michael your movie grossed $1.1 billion but Hasbro (those guys footing the bill and doing so to sell toys) didn't move many figures once the third movie came around.

This is not saying Bay's designs sucked in the first three movies (although I do think they did) but after, what was it, 5 years of the same thing the toys just got boring.

Redesigns have nothing to do with the movie franchise and everything to do with selling toys.


By definition this is not a reboot. A reboot is a retelling of the same story in a new way. This is more like taking in a different story but in the same universe. New cast, new characters but still acknowledging the first three movies. Was Pirates 4 a reboot?

 

I hope that the designs are RADICALLY different from the usual movie aestetics so i can see the Bayformers fans bitch their hearts out because of the change.

 

I bet he's telling the truth this time just to mess with the mind of those who FINALLY know about his misinformation.

geez yggdrasil love you too   i'd really only mind because then i'd either habe to restart my movie collection or the new guys wouldn't fit in eith the old ones. if it's an aesthetic i like that'll help soften the impact though.

 

Autobots probably decided to (or have to) go into hiding or some such since everyone and their dog now knows what they all look like yada yada yada, so boom, redesigns justified. Hundred bucks says some Bay style covert military group is after them. And no surprise, more Decepticons are likely still kicking around Earth and/or of course coming to Earth. Again.

Sequel with a reboot feel in 20 seconds  

 

And there'll be a magical Mcguffin on Earth that both sides will want! Don't forget about that!

 

I think it might be nice if they bots started to take on more of their IDW aspects for the film. When you think about it after close to now 7+ years on earth perhaps aspects of their alt mode will start to blend into their alt modes. So they would appear less cybertronian and more G1-ish

 

New human cast only or new robot cast too?

Well considering how much shelfwarming Bumblebees have been doing I guess they'd want to make a new kids friendly character.

I get the feeling some fans, even after we get the movie and everybody sees it's not a reboot, will SILL claim it's a reboot and the whole film is just a lie by Bay...
