Just in case anyone is livin' under a rock, Haiti was hit with a MASSIVE 7.0 quake that just demolished Port Au Prince. Death count may be in the hundred thousands now.

Do we have any Haitian board members? My thoughts and prayers with them and everyone on the poverty stricken island.

    Edit-

I guess if you want to help you can donate $10 by texting 90999

Or you can visit American Red Cross

Was wondering when this thread was going to show up.

Man I feel so bad for Haiti. That's just too much.
Yeah, really hope no one here lives or has family there. Our thoughts are with you

They're saying it is the worst earthquake in Haiti in 200 years. Devastating for any nation, but more so for such a poor country.

    Some photographs of the aftermath.

I don't think we've had one here like that since the one in San Fransisco 1909.

Are'nt we on the other side of that fault that broke Haiti?

I was surprised there wasn't one. I came in here to read it, not start it. Weird.

I've heard the death toll estimates being as high as 100,000. If that is true, that is just a staggering loss of life. My thoughts and prayers for these people.

could not have picked a worse place to have a major quake heavy population center, Building codes likely don't require much if any earthquake Resistance, and many older buildings. My heart goes out to all affected by the disaster.

Wow, that's really sad. Haiti could have done without this, however no place is a good place for an earthquake.

I saw this on the news last night, and thought about posting the news here, but I hesitated in doing so in fear that someone might beat me to it.

    Just tragic. :(

This is the first I've seen of this. (I've been on a rock vs. under one) No wonder they (work) were calling us to see if we had family there.

And we thought 9/11 was bad.

I agree. This was pretty bad. But if there's one good thing, then it's that the US and other countries are sending aid to help all those people. Primus knows how much they need it.

I haven't seen any photos of the aftermath online, but I did see one in the Chicago Tribune, the newspaper I read in the morning. This just is a terrible thing. If they had only had some kind of warning!

Plus, if they had more of a stable economy and more sufficient building materials, then maybe the city wouldn't have had so much destruction brought on it by this disaster. I sure hope that they get the help they need.

    Primus be with them.
