hasbro malaysia has really been really on the ball lately. normally we lag behind singapore, but with alt mirage, we're actually ahead of the curve.

    malaysia boleh!

    (ahem)

anyways, i was really looking fwd to these guys...

and now that i have them, i wont mince words here...

    they suck.

    seriously.

as action figures, these things are atrocious. the fact that megs was packaged with his arms dislocated shouldve hinted this.

megs for instance, is a friggin' rag doll. his hip joint is hella floppy and will unclasp if you look at it wrongly. this is because the hip joint is connected by teeny weeny clips. i'm amazed this passed thru design. (btw my picture above of megs alt mode is with the hip joint removed, he looks better this way)

prime is not as bad as megs. still, there are basic things that they screw up. the hands, which slide out doesnt really lock in place. also, my unit had serious QC issue with the die cast lower legs riddled with paint chips. on one leg only.

that said, the sculpt/design is nice, and they look good in packaging. so you MIB guys will love this.

i just hope the 2nd wave will show improvement, because these things are like SWTFs in build quality, in that they dont have the discipline exhibited in the main line.

dont say i didnt warn y'all.

    A few questions-

Has there been any other reports of the complaints you mentioned? Loose joints, paint apps, etc... ?? I know these are fairly early in the release stage, but i'm still asking.

How are they as display pieces?

Would you mind giving a description for Megatron's range of hip and knee articulation?

prime is okay for posing. my only issue is with his non locking hands and lower legs which come with paint chips. the die cast weight does affect poseabilty but the range is there.

megs arms are okay tho the elbows are very loose. his leg articulation is limited, with little front to rear motion, so are his knees, but the hip joint design makes it frustrating since it keeps unclasping.

i would not mention these if i bought lemons but i strongly suspect these are due to poor engineering/mechanism design. i suspect since these are produced in conjunction with micro machine/galoob, theyre making rookie mistakes without the benefit of hasbro's regular team's experience. its not unlike the silly mistakes theyre making with SWTF's design.

I think that goes for the small TFTs too, they look good in their character specific packaging!

same goes for the packaging too actually. they just 'feel' different from the regular TF packaging. the card stock is different but i kinda like the graphics.

the point i'm trying to make is everything abt these is off from the regular TF product.

they have their own titanium feel. Its like "Titanium" is a brand name now, and Tranformers is just the newest "sub-brand" of Titanium.

Just based on this first report, I'd say it would be nice to have these guys fixed up, increased in size, made completely plastic, and used to bolster the Classics line.

Guess I may end up passing on these guys if they suck that bad. Thanks for the warning.

You might want to see a doctor about that...

Interesting... I'll still pic them up as I don't really "play" with my toys. They come out of package. I fiddle with them a little and than they go on display on my shelf. Besides, from what you've said... they can't be any worse than the SWTF figures and I have (and actually like) all of those. Sure they're not great, but when the main team isn't involved... what was everyone expecting?

I wasn't really too hip on these, but thats still bad they're poorly designed since I know a lot of people were really excited for them. Prime does look pretty cool as a display piece, maybe I'll pick it up...I'll think about it. Thanks for the review, KA.

The paint chips on prime seem typical of the Titanium line in general, as far as the star wars ones go. The nonlocking hands arent a dealbreaker for me either. I will skip Megs as I was planning to, but I will get Prime.

I'm still getting Prime, regardless. But also just in case they don't make better plastic ones for any future TF line.
