52: Week #18 arrived today! (Tomorrow for some of you due to Labour Day)
The Origin story this week was for The Question. Pretty interesting. Don't know too much about him but it was an adequate introduction to him.

    SPOILERS
Anyway, the funeral for Booster Gold was held in Cincinnati, a city which Booster has never been to before. The planning for the funeral took 3 weeks since no other city wanted to hold the funeral. No one showed up for it, and the only media coverage was Clark Kent. Poor Booster, he gets no love after saving everyone in Metropolis :(  (Page 11 & Page 12)

After the funeral Skeets meets an ancestor of Booster (Daniel Jon Carter) and arranges to meet with him later on to discuss Daniels future. Maybe since the suit was still intact Skeets gives it to him to become the new Booster Gold. That's my thinking anyway... and then you get to the end of the issue where they show the cover of next weeks and you see this....

The solicit reads: "What if I told you I could — using Booster's DNA— bioengineer a superhero identity for you?"

    H'mmm....

    They killed off Booster Gold?

This is why I quit reading most DC comics. You spend time and get attached to a character, and DC kills them off and replaces them with a pretty dull/stupid/trendy replacement that is nowhere near as interesting. We may have Hal Jordan back, but the trend has simply shifted to second tier characters.

My two main thoughts after reading this issue:

Ralph Dibney might be the new Doc Fate? That would rock.

Renee Montoya has the best method of coping in the history of everything.

Once they killed off Booster I dropped this book. They made such an effort to redeem Booster only to kill him off in 52. Bastards:throw

This was probably answered years ago, but:

Why the heck does the Question share Victor Szasz's name, even though they're completely different characters?

Wikipedia says the name change from Vic Sage was retconned in Question Annual #2, which was published in 1989.

Muddying the waters a bit further ...

I didn't notice that the spelling of the last names differs slightly between the two characters. However:

... which means that Mr. Zsasz was created AFTER The Question got his new name, but the name that "inspired" it is actually spelled the same as The Question's name.

Having Ralph as Dr. Fate would be interesting. I did have a thought about it afterwards. Ralph is probably only interested in the helmet as a chance to resurrect Sue. What if the helmet wants to make Sue Dibny the new Dr. Fate? Just a thought.

I still have my doubts whther Micheal Carter is absolutely dead. It is pretty suspicious the way Booster "bit it". I have a feeling that Daniel will just be a stand-in for a while and eventually Micheal will return, perhaps resulting in some sort of confrontation later on in 52.

    We have a winnah!

As for DC replacing characters, it really is a trend.
    - Superman gets replaced by 4 newcomers.
    - The Earth GL cycle of Hal, Guy, John, and Kyle
    - Batman Knightfall-Knightsend
    - How many Supergirls in the last decade? Oh yea, 4.
    - How many Robins? 3.
    - Blue Beetle's replacement
    - Green Arrow in he 90s
    - Now Booster Gold.

And I am pissed about Booster but what really ticks me off is that to much is going on and stories are being left out for weeks on end. The space heroes were basically forgotten for a few weeks and finally show last week only to have no page tim ein this issue. Beetle's aftermath took 3 weeks? Come on. Supernova has since disappeared. The only story worth following has been Black Adam, Isis, Question, and Renee.

And speaking of our lesbian hottie, what the hell happened to batwoman? DC makes a huge deal of a lipstick lesbian in a comic and she's in one freaking issue more than 2 months ago.

It's all about brand-recognition when they replace characters. Those greedy corporate sharks always win out over the creative types...

So Skeets is responsible for breaking time. Little bastard.

Also, the number "52" is mentioned in a OYL title this week ... which means that, whatever it is, it won't be resolved by the end of 52.

Yeah, at the end of this week's Green Lantern all the Gaurdians are talking and they all say 52. We also have Red Tornado saying 52 in one of the early issues of 52. What other 52 references have there been?
