It's all about marketing. People like weird auctions. The general public does the marketing by mailing the link around, and once there are thousands of people watching the auction, a business like Golden Palace comes along and buys it to get those hits.

There's nothing idiotic about it, it's actually quite savvy.

Dude, that's a leaked prototype of the Great Illinois Cornflake. Didn't you notice the "Not For Sale" stamp on it?

I'm just gonna wait until it's out at retail and get one for $9.99.

Fake. No way anyone is paying that much for that stupid fucking thing. It's a stretch to begin with. So we'll spend 75,000 on a chip but people are starving in the streets.....wow.

It's at $180,300 right now. Good luck getting the buyer to actually pay it though.

The best part about it is that it only bears some similarities to the state of Illinois. Whereas some of this "hey it looks like something" cereal pieces, potato chips, or whatever....this flake just isn't that spot on.

Now the Jay Leno potato chip...that's more like it!
