There was absolutely no reason to remake the original. "The Day The Earth Stood Still" was one of the greatest cinematic science fiction stories of all time and a high-tense bastardization like this only serves to prove that creativity is well and truly dead.

Eh, I don't mind as long as it will be a good movie on it's own. The original will still exist and will always be seen as a classic, after all.

    Jennifer Connelly? No, thanks.

    Keanu Reeves? Please, no.

Another remake no one asked for? Bitch, please.

I'm out. Nothing about this looks good to me.

As I've said before, I actually think a remake of Day has potential, a sequel even more.

If you've watched Day recently, there are certain elements that date the film (for good or ill is up to you). There is certainly something odd about an alien race that says "be peaceful or we'll blow you all to hell." That seems a little inconsistent in a modern context, and something worth more exploration.

However, the notion of a sophisticated alien race being so worried about the state of the present life forms on one planet that it would (it seems) eradicate the only intelligent species on it seems far fetched. Why, exactly, didn't these aliens stop the meteor that killed the dinosaurs? Why didn't they save the mammoths and keep the ice age going?

Maybe they only came about fairly recently, and are now making an effort to ban all death and violence from the universe, turn chaos into order? Threatening lower beings could be a last-resort option for species such as mankind.

Well, that's five minutes that I'll never get back. Hollywood ONCE AGAIN decides to remake a good movie and turn it into shit.

I'm not impressed, it seems to lose the basic message of the original. It seems like the war of the worlds remake, flashy, but lacking substance. Hollywood need to realize that special effects are not a replacement to a good solid plot with good actors.

Eh, personally, I don't see much different from the last trailer except more Gort. Which IS cool, IMO.

But because of that, I can also see Gort being the only redeemable part of this remake, too.

Yes I have. And IMO, it's a lot better than this. Besides, that's where the whole "Klaatu Barada Nikto" thing came from.

Looks good to me, and I'm actually looking forward to this. I personally like the more updated and modernized feel to it. Gort looks amazing, and definitely closer to the original than I had at one point thought he would be. Only real difference I can see as of now is that he looks a lot bigger, and is more fluid looking, which fits the feel of this remake, imo.

I really feel like this is tarnishing the name of the original. I may end up seeing it out of curosity but I'll wait for reviews.
