At first this sounds rediculous that they would do this but then on second thought I can't remember the last time I played a PS2 game on my ps3.

I can, Shadow of the Colossus, two weeks ago. But for some it may not matter, provided Sony can beef up the PS3 library.

I play my PS2 games A LOT on my PS3, in fact, for obvious reasons, the first couple of months with my PS3 was nothing but FF12 and Dragonquest, and then God of War 2. I don't think it a smart move, but most people that will be buying it now will be doing so for Next gen, not last. Still, I'm just glad I got the one I did. I still love playing Ps2 games. Hot Shot Tennis, FTOW!

While the price point is appealing, then lack of BC is off putting.

Didn't they just put out an update that upscales some PS2 games, making them look incredible?

    Way to negate that.

I still play GoW and GoW2 on my PS3. Dusted the cob webs off of Bouncer and played that last week as well.

I really don't think the BC thing is really that big of a deal. Just pull the PS2 back out and hook it up to the jacks on the fron of the TV if you want to play SOCOM that bad.

No mention of whether or not it will loose the built-in wireless...hmmm.

PS2 is the only thing I've played on my PS3. That and Blu-Ray. But once I finish FF12 I'll go rent Heavenly Sword and Lair.

From looking at it though, the value bundle looks like a much better deal than the 40GB version. 20GB more, 2 games and an extra controller for what is approximately $100.

    First thoughts:

    1) How will this not be seen as a sign of weakness by outside observers?
    2) No way most hardcore gamers buy this system. Too much is taken out.
    3) Casual gamers - the majority of the PS2 crowd - may bite, but I also don't expect them to be informed about it's abilities. Wonder how many will trade in their PS2 and get pissed when they learn BC is gone.
    4) What will this do to US sales? Now we know Sony will change SKU's like shoes, and with the 40 gig coming out, and the possibility of an 80 gig to follow, who wouldn't hold off their purchase for a bit?

£349 is almost enough to make me get one of the 60gb versions. All it needs now are some games I really want and I'd be sold.

remember when there was just one version of a console and it did everything for one price? this is what, the 4th version of the ps3 in less than a year? the funniest thing i find is the varying harddrive sizes, as if the hd has anything to do with the price whatsoever.

i always thought customer confusion was something that companies should try and avoid.

Considering that backwards compatability was THE major selling point for me, this would be terrible news if I hadn't already bought my ps3.

Though, if anyone can explain Sony's overall logic to me, it would be greatly appreciated.

If I ever remotely consider getting one I'll have to track down a used original 60 GB one. This gutting they are doing is BS. If they wanted to save $ they should have not gone with Blue Ray in the first place. But no they had to shove this format down everyones throat and now they are cutting things that gamers find useful to get the price down instead.

My first reaction to this was what happened to the PS3 they released last year lasting 10 years? They've completely changed the machine they said would be steady and last a decade and it's only been out a year.

Still, this is the most appealing PS3 to me so far. I don't play any of my XBOX games on my 360, and I got rid of all of my PS2 games long ago so there is no threat of nostalgia, which is all BC is to begin with anyway. I'll worry more about the wave of the future than the niceties of the past.

Right, thats what I want to do when the price goes down a wee bit. Then Im gonna send it in to sony to have it refurbished. But then, in the future, they might make the old 60 gigs absolete, and send customers the raped version cause they dont make the original anymore or stock parts for it. I see thats unlikely but plauseable.
