Basicly, they can't use the real name for legal reasons, so they say Not-Hook. so its a different name, but still has the real name so you know who it is.

I think a move to simplicity of design is a welcome aesthetic. For me, the appeal of the G1 transformers is the directness of form and function. You knew what they were in Alt mode and their bot mode had simple readable shapes.

Silhouette and a break-up of shapes (large vs. small, detailed vs. clean) is something that many modern and movie designs are getting all wrong. You lose the character and the sense for what something was intended to be.

My only gripe with G1 toys is the poor articulation and sometimes clunky design choices based on the manufacturing limitations of that time.

Now that manufacturers can give us more expert tooling and engineers can design and create some amazingly technical transformation processes, the door is wide open. But I would argue that in most creative fields, design within limitations help to force artists to be resourceful and come up with creative solutions.

That is a long winded thought, these have a lot of potential to be an excellent 3rd party product and I'm excited.

I think the detailing is nice and I love that the alt modes are clear reads.

I think the Classics line is a great example of new tooling and articulation while maintaining the appeal of the G1 aesthetic. Although, I think Animated has done an outstanding job of creating clear simple appealing characters with strong silhouettes.

Not true, there might have been some well-designed, non-film-appearing DOTM molds like Bludgeon and Mindwipe were in ROTF. :lol

In my best Peter Cullen voice: Devastator must be bought, no matter the cost.

I'm pretty sure he's being facetious, playing off the "Not-so-and-so" nomenclature the fandom has attached to 3rd party productions in general.

This set will....be....mine. I kinda hope Hook's....umm...hook can detach in robot mode. I really hate designs with robot-tall back kibble. However...If it doesn't, and there is no way around the back kibble...I'm cool with that. I doubt I'll hardly ever have this set displayed as anything other than Devestator.

Anyone know of a rumored release date?

If these are around Deluxe size then I'm VERY intrested and would consider selling other items to help pay for the whole thing.

At any rate it's nice to see all these 3rd party companies stepping up and giving collectors more options, especially for those of us that aren't intrested in many of the products that HasTak have announced for 2011 so far.
