... It's like an unholy mix of Primal and a rock'em sock'em robot.

It's funny, but speaking personally, it was the organic forms of Beast Wars that made me bounce off of the show. If they were "robot-looking" from the get go (like this figure is), I think I would have enjoyed the show/figures more.
But I understand I might be in the minority here.

I don't know if it's a minority but I agree with you in that I much prefer cybertronian beasts to organic ones in the transformers universe, and Beast Wars is one of my favorite series.

I don't mind the idea but the execution here is lacking. The bot mode being incredibly visible from the back. I know that the MP figure isn't much better but they did seem to try harder. Here, you just get Prime legs bent backwards at the knees. It can't take more than six steps to transform him. Most of it being stand up straight and rotate 180 degrees at waist.

Good points. That's one of the issues of the original Primal future to begin with, isn't it (un-bend the knees, rotate the waist)?
If there was some sort of color change (like a leg cover flap or something), would that have addressed your concern, or do you have even deeper issues with the figure?

Perhaps in the regard to visible "bot" parts, yes. Hiding the white, by whatever means, could certainly help. But then, you get just a big, black block. The color variance at least helps there.

I do think there is a deeper root to my being fully invested in the figure. Perhaps that the robot and alt mode aren't that far separated from one another... again, I know that's a common theme of the character but Primal and even Primal Prime seem to do a better job of making both modes... unique? Maybe?

Big, blocky robot, big, blocky ape... I want to like this figure I am just having a hard time.

Ordered & painted a few more Generations Insecticons to army build these guys. After the paintwork, I must admit that I really like the look even over the original G1 toy. Installed some LEDs into the FT guns recently as well. Check it out!

I have a question. What is everyone's preferred MP version of the Insecticons? Trying to expand my Decepticon ranks and I was just wondering which ones were preferred, realizing it may be tough to get my hands on some of them at this point.

@songrobin which ones are you using in the above photos?

    Thanks

I like the BadCube Evil Bugs Value pack. the cost is excellent, an I like the sculpts. The color changing gimmick is kind of cool too.

The ones I own are FansToys. I was fortunate to grab them as soon as they released and I am extremely happy with this set. I understand that a re-release is due, but that might just be a rumor. Keep in mind that I used custom KFC hands on my set. Hope that helps!

For my it is the FansTOys version but those are pretty much impossible to find as a complete set.
