Update (18/11/18): so I've returned to the project to make a final modification. I tweaked some mechanics and scaled him down. My goal was always to make him about the size of newage bumblebee as I thought that fit quite well, and here we are I'd say this scale is pretty good (magic square, newage, hit me up ;-) ), I've also made a file set which is between the two. Finally, here is a teaser for the figures I'm working on right now. Alright, so I actually managed to finish this project in a decent amount of time. Everything but the eyes is coloured polymer, I do want to paint the eyes but this is my first time making a custom figure so didnt have any paints to hand. I used a fine liner, but it faded. Anyway, here's the finished cosmos! I'm actually really happy with how he came out in the end. Despite the inate imperfections caused by 3D printing, I think he fits in pretty nicely with the rest of my legends boys, he isn't too big for the other mini-bots He uses mostly ball joints, but there are a few pin hinges made with paperclips. His shoulders are slightly limited, but he still poses nicely And unlike his prototype form he actually transforms and tabs together without any parts-forming So yeah, I'd call this guy a success. Im working on a warpath right now to go with him, I think I've come up with a mechanic to slim the robot down while still having a decent tank mode. We'll see. I do plan to sell the file, I just need to make some final tweaks to the STLs before I am happy letting people pay for them. Expect them to be up in the next 24 hours, I was just impatient to take some pictures. Here are a couple more I took for scale and just for kicks I especially like how he looks with new Hasbro Cosmos
That looks amazing! Are you planning on releasing an stl when you're done or throw it on Shapeways or something? I'd consider buying an stl but Shapeways is too expensive unfortunately.
I've sold stuff on shape-ways before but figured this would be too expensive. Ill throw him up there anyway once I'm happy, but I've never done and STL sale, whats the easiest way of doing that?
I believe myminifactory.com has an option to make purchaseable downloads. I imagine they keep a percentage. You could also just sell them directly via email or whatever and have people pay you via PayPal gift if you don't want to deal with myminifactory's fees. Shapeways even has a download option - I've only seen it used on free downloads but I bet they've got a way to do paid downloads as well.
Very cool! Like the size you made him too. I would definietly consider buying the file or whichever format you chose.
that is f'ning awesome man...take my money!!! shapeways is garbage and this is way too nice for that place. add me to the list of people who would be down with buying the file as well.
Nice work. Will keep an eye out for availability re: my personal interest / mild obsession - The Cos-most Cosmos Collection
I have ordered a selection of coloured filaments to test print him in colour. I've also ordered a few Gundam markers, so I'm hoping early next week to have a full colour version to show off. I might sell a few complete ones in the UK to make back some of the filament cost, alongside putting up the STL
