3D Artwork: 3D movie-ish but a bit more G1-ish Prime (wip)

Hello all, been quite a long time since I've worked on any 3D Transformers stuff so I've blown off the cobwebs and decided to get back into the swing...

First things first: I liked the movie designs, maybe not so much at first but I came round to them. Well, except Megatron, he still looks like a haphazard array of shredded metal to me...
But I couldn't help wondering how they might have looked if a slightly more G1-esque look while maintaining the realistic level of detail that made the movie bots as convincing as they are.

I decided to take a stab at making Prime using his original Freightliner alt mode. I have the main bulk of the cab modeled, I need to add some details and re-work some place-holder parts.

I wanted to use much less cheating than ILM did with the movie bots. Meaning I didn't want any parts impossibly flying from one end of the vehicle to the other end of the robot. There will be some bending scaling of some sections to make the robot mode look more dynamic and balanced.
The transformation itself won't be overly complex; I'll post a sketch of the intended design tomorrow.

Here's a couple of pics of what I have so far:

    Hope you enjoy!:)

Amazing work...I do lots of graphic design, but I think my brain would melt if I tried to do something like that in 3D

Pretty cool stuf you've got there, george. I think he's pretty good, though the eyes strike me as being really big (the lenses are fine though).

As for the color, I think he needs a darker, almost midnight-blue or navy blue to more resemble G1 Prime. This lighter blue feels more like Armada Prime.

    Thanks for the comments:)

Star Cracker: The final blue metal will indeed be quite a bit darker than the one in these renders, pus I will be adding some more detail behind the lenses around the eye sockets.

Here is a sketch I made up to show the design I'm aiming for. I'm still working out the leg transformation. I'm going to try to hide as much mass in the rear frame as I can get away with without affecting the truck mode too much. I think the main bulk of the shins/feet will be borrowed from the rear of the cab in a similar way to Voyager Movie Prime.

    ^Mother of God!!!

That's a GREAT design! IMO it mixes the movie aesthetic with G1 perfectly.

That sketch is very interesting, since it's similar to how I envisioned the parts of the truck that make up the thighs when I had been working on my now-abandoned Prime model.

I may model a new version at some point, but further down the road as I'd hate to essentially, be doing something that reeks to much of a copy.

One question on the Freightliner though, could you show the underside of the chassis and where the cab connects? I had a hell of a time getting any kind of real reference for that and so there was nothing modeled beyond the forward wheel axis. Even better, where did you get your references?

That is a really great design, and pretty much what he should have been like in the film.:thumb

    Fantastic!
For the most part, what you have drawn is how I have been imagining the movie version of G1 Prime to be.

Great way of putting it to drawing.

As usual, George, your work is top-notch. This is an excellent design so far and it would have been great to see something like this in the actual movie.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of this. That's a great looking hybrid design.
