    Hey everyone,

I've wanted to get back into 3D modeling, and finally get started printing my own stuff with Shapeways for custom figure projects.

Here's the 1/2 shot of my Grimlock head. It's modeled on the Classics Grimlock in Google Sketchup. It's an amazing little program. :)

Once I have it tweaked, I'll flip/mirror (Well, transform and pull though) to make a whole head, joint and create more of a curve for the forehead visor.

Update1: Stitched the mirrored head halves together, and started on the curved/planes back of the head. :)

Update2: Fixed the internal facet problems that were preventing Shapeways from printing it. I'll let everyone know once it's tested and ready for sale @ my Shapeways store. :)

Update3: I recieved the printed model from Shapeways, but it's too small - and the difference in height between the visor and mouth guard aren't as apparent as they looked on computer. I'll be revising it (making the face less 'flat'), and will resubmit for another test printing at a larger size. Once the bugs are worked out, I'll be opening it for public purchase on Shapeways.

Nice work! You should put it on shapeways when you're done.

That sound neat. I've not seen that version of Grimlock (or if I did, it was a while ago). If someone posts a good face-forward reference pic, I'll do an alt. version like that.

Are you planning to make a mold from this or are you just playing with the program?

I wouldn't be putting in 24 hours of work into this just to play with it. :)  I'm currently trying to scale the head down to 1.4mm and export it into .STL format for Shapeways. That's where I've hit a speedbump, as Sketchup downgrades some surfaces when I resize it -- which is really weird.

I've posted in the General Creative Discussion section and at Shapeways, so hopefully I can get this model up on Shapeways and tested soon.

I sort of see what you mean... it's hard to tell from those ref. pics though. Sort of like Tarantula's mouth on Beast Wars, eh?

That picture is a little bit clearer. Basically he has "teeth" in the gaps in the bottom corners of his facemask.

Looks neat. After the hassles of making this Grimlock model (it was a learning process, heh) - I don't think I'll be making this version with the teeth, since I don't have a need for it. If someone wants to create a version with teeth, they can email me for my original model file -- on the condition I'm given creator credit (the the user modifying the faceplate to have teeth as the customizer) on Shapeways.

I've submitted my original model to Shapeways, and will hopefully have a printed version ready in a few weeks to show. :)
