I was looking at my mp collection, was thinking how cool it would be for backgrounds for my detolf shelves... Since most collectors here use them, I think it'd be a big win for an ambitious 3rd party...
Sets could be g1 ark/mountain & teletran I. G1 decepticons set nemesis & space bridge canyon

    Take this image: [IMG]
And sculpt it onto a thin piece of raised plastic, that could mount via 3m stickies to the back of a detolf case to add some immersive fun to the set.

Anyone else think they'd buy it? I think they could make a killing with it! Could also do backgrounds for animated, etc

This isn't a thread about patience... It's a thread about an idea. If someone is developing said idea, great! Let's see it, marvel at it, and talk about it.

I want my mp display jumping. Not some boring museum display.

I think it's a good idea, if done well and inexpensive. I imagine not more than $20 to $30. The only problem is those pics are property of Hasbro, and they may sue the company selling them.

I guess you don't pay too much attention to the current 3rd party products. :lol

Just find a nice screenshot and get it printed on cardstock.
As for a Detolf, it's kinda a waste to cover up one of your glass windows with something. It seems like a better idea for a more conventional bookcase.

Key point missed is 3D. If I print a picture, it's a flat piece of card stock. I guess the closest analog is the 3d backgrounds for aquariums. They give a great illusion of depth. As for me detolfs, they are against a wall, so the side nearest to the wall really serves no other purpose for me. Another reason I don't want to just print out a screen shot is coz it's for masterpiece figures, which are the ultimate representation of the characters, so why not have the ultimate realization of a common backdrop?

And as I said, lots of us have detolfs, so I think there would be a market for it. $20 for a backdrop seems plenty reasonable.

I was thinking about doing a similar thing for making full shelf dioramas. there's a lot of really cool aquarium decorations of old ruins out there. Cheap too.

So i was thinking about printing some backdrops the other day... im not above a bit of photoshop and this would be a fun project. That ark exterior, and the interior as used by the papercraft model would be ideal. Sadly I couldnt locate any decent resolution images from which to start. Anyone got any good links?

Here's the biggest res versions of them that I'm aware of.

Edit: Attached a slightly bigger version of the exterior

I'd buy them if it was done right, like to scale and removable.

Ha, that's the Ark exterior I made for my photo backgrounds :D

The reason it's the biggest to be found is because I had to upscale it in Photoshop and do a lot of work smoothing out individual pixels (whilst maintaining detail), whereas of course every other toon screen grab is only as big as the resolution on a DVD/tv screen.

I know it's not what the Op means, but there are a couple of other backgrounds I applied the same method too here: G1 Transformers Toon Backdrops Photos by OptimusTimelord | Photobucket

If anyone is interested in seeing more G1 background art, I do have quite a few saved so might start a thread if there's interest. As for 3D Deltof backings, I think that's a cool idea. Same sort of images, just with 3D relief details so it appears more 'real'. I'd like to see it done. I can think of a couple of ways of making it even more immersive... Hmmmm :)
