First things first- the robot mode:

I made the hands slide down out of the arms, instead of always being exposed. So they're posable.

I also made the knee slide down from the upper leg, which lengthens the legs and adds another joint for rotation.

Lastly, The "neck shell" part of the legs rotates around, so the legs flair more at the base than at the top. It gives it more of a G1-ish appearane, IMO.

    Now, the T-Rex mode:

Added better posability to the feet, and added joints to the small upper arms. Made the head a little bigger to be more intimidating.

    The weapons:

Not much here - added a blaster barrel rather than a glowing missile, and the blade detaches to from a seperate weapon.

    Mêlée weapons:

The biggest departure from the toy. The claws on the left arm/leg extend to form a slashing weapon, and the toes on the right arm/leg extend to form a shredding weapon, once ol' Grimlock has the Decepticon armor ripped open. Also makes a great can opener.

Comments and crits are, as per the usual, welcome.

very cool man, although the way you make the jaws bigger in beast mode looks out of proportion imo and would look better in the original size, or maybe make the head as a whole bigger instead of just the jaws

Thats a great job you did with this model. Cool to see you gave him the black wash look from the toy. :thumb

VERY nice! How did you do the black wash> (IIRC you use Lightwave; is that the Grit plugin, or GMIL, or something else?)

Nice take on my favorite character.
You have done some cool things with it.
I really like it –except for the dinosaur head.
I understand what you were trying to do, but by only lengthening the jaws, I feel like you have changed Grimlock’s dino mode from a Tyrannosaurus Rex to a Suchomimus.
Again, I really like the work, just not that particular design choice.

I wish Hasbro had thought of separating the blade portion of his gun into a separate weapon.
Also, where is the tail structure in your render when he is in Robot mode?

Re: the head - I see what you're saying, and I'll fix it after work. I'll hopefully have and animation whipped up soon.

    Defstar - I use Lightwave 3D.

Draven - I did use Grit(lite, actually). Such a handy little tool.

Smasher - the tail is mounted on his back, behind his head.

Thought so; Grit's a fantastic little shader. I'd still be using it if there was a 64 bit version.

I like your improvement to Grimlock's dino head. Better rounded, not so flat.
    Nice!

hmm.... looking good so far, Scott. I think you might need to rework the dino head in certain areas as it seems to be flat along the mouth (maybe it's just the perspective). If you want, I could take a few pics of Classics Grimlock and post closeups of the Dinohead. Otherwise, the modeling seems fine. You've done a good job, especially with the leg detail. Keep on posting!
