    36" Optimus Prime w/ 4" Rotational Base UPDATE 2/3/10

Well, after 2 years of legal crapola, licensing issues and production concerns, I have been given the green light to finally make this bad boy - With a few conditions being that Sideshow currently has the Collectible License from Hasbro and the last thing I want to do is step on the toes that lead to the ass I am kissing right now with my NFL players series of sculpts...

    In any event...

I can't make the Prime transformable, that is actually owned by Takara and I would have to go through them. Well needless to say I have contacted them with nothing in the reply box just yet...

The other big issue was the size: a 50" Prime would be way too heavy to ship to conventions and suppliers - and fans of the character. So, it's now going to be a 36" statue with poseable upper torso and limited posability in the legs - I don't know, this is what I was told I could do.

The figure its self will be 36-38" tall, and feature lights, sounds, illuminated Energon swords and guns to be swapped out with the hands, removable face plate and will stand on a 4-6" high rotating illuminated base.

The figure will me made of Resins and low-temp-melt metals like pewter and brass, will feature chromed pieces and brushed aluminum accents, etc. The wires will be actual wiring, and if my tech can hide them, automated servos with a push button activator to move the arms and torso a bit, much like the Ultimate Bumble Bee.

Any how, here is the Foam Mock up of the Torso that I am hoping to have finished in time for Bot Con in Orlando...

SO here is the deal, what do you think of a scaled series in resin for the avid collector? I can keep costs down in resin so that most everyone can afford one - I need feed back from you guys so when this is in QC I can put in my report what materials I need to use, etc...

    Thanks for looking everyone!!

Is this what the finished product will look like or do you have pics of the final mold?

Nooooo... I am still mocking up the foam so I have my sizing guide. From this I am making a G1 AND Movie-verse Optimus Prime. This is just the foam mock up to show everyone what the size will be. I've prob. got at LEAST 3 months of sculpting to do just to even HOPE to get this thing done in time for Bot-con in Orlando.

    36" Optimus Prime w/ 4" Rotational Base UPDATE 2/3/10

Just a quick update of the scaling of the torso... This thing is going to be massive and I figured a way to keep my costs down as well - It's a great day in the neighborhood :)
    Take a peek!!

Well the scaling is done, the sculpting starts in the morning.

Total height is 44inches tall and for reference I put my Scorpinock on Primes' hip.

Quick shot of Primes' nose / face layout... This will be interchangeable with a "guarded" face plate.
Sorry for the crappy phone pic.. I need a card reader for my computer to get the pics off the camera - So it's the phone for now.

Quick update - only had a few minutes today to work on this - so I started the bridge of the nose, now I can cast and sand it, as the rest of the head will be scaled and based off this one part... Because all of the cuts are straight, I am using a blade more than tools, but I have to be honest, trying to sculpt the "damage" in there, like the dings, nicks and scrapes - it's tough...

And here is the mold with the nose/brow

If you wanna save time i'd say don't do the damage, just make a clean version instead. Battle damage is way overrated! Now hurry, can't wait to see this beauty take shape! :D

Yea see the thing is, I can only have it so clean, and so much to the film before I am outside my "allowedness" as it were LoL

So yea, once the piece is cast, I can sand it silky smooth OR leave it rough...

Just a pain in the ass because I have to do it piece by piece... LoL
