This fandom is so weird. What’s so unusual about celebrating a 35th anniversary?

And of course Takara-Tomy and/or Hasbro are going to create promotions in order to sell toys and merchandise. That’s what they do. The whole franchise has been a “ploy to get you to buy more stuff”. And it’s still going strong after 35 years.

If you’d started it you’d be celebrating too.

Yeah, considering that we are the only ones crazy enough to dump $90+ on gimmicky plastic toys and enjoy pissing on each other on trivial stuff.

The only justification that we could give to outsiders is "we are a product of some toy company's desire to sell millions of repackaged weird Japanese toys to us stupid and impressionable kids," but that is a mouthful.

My only desire for this Optimus would be for them to use chrome for the smokestacks and grill and not white/grey/flat silver paint. Better articulation would be nice (and expected due to MP-36) as well.

As amusing as the couldn't-care-less-to-care-to-post-about-it saga has been, my god do we need confirmation of OP v3 otherwise the internet may destroy itself...

Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling.
Forty years of darkness. Earthquakes, volcanoes.
The dead rising from the grave.

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together – mass hysteria.

Call it what you like. If you feel like a sucker for buying these things then reprioritise your spending. None of us have been duped into collecting TFs, we're all reasonable adults. TT are a business, but it's clear from interviews that the designers love their work, they are huge TF fans themselves, and it's even clearer from the actual designs themselves. None of these feel half-assed, they are all love letters to G1. Yes, they have their faults, they have their limitations, but that doesn't mean this line isn't fantastic. Nostalgia, appreciation for a good toy, appreciation for engineering, they're all great reasons to collect.

As for the 35th anniversary, yes it's true that the 25th anniversary went by largely unnoticed, right? Maybe they're using the 35th anniversary as an excuse, to soften the blow of yet another Prime for those who don't already see clear as day the need for one who matches Megatron in aesthetics, articulation and accessories. They can celebrate whatever the hell they want. Next year is the 30th anniversary of the movie's release in Japan, think of it as us finally getting our 1986 movie Optimus Prime, who will come with all the accessories needed to recreate those scenes.

The last big date event I remember was the Road to 2010 promotion that included dead MP-01, MP-09 (which was the last mystery item on this list), Encore G1 Predaking and a few other pieces.

I’ll also spuriously link the fact we are getting a POTP Predaking as an indicator the same as the G1 Re-issue.

    The stars are aligning!!

Yes, a number of compnies celebrate 35th anniversaries. As alluded to in my post, at least in the US, the custom is to celebrate every 5th year as milestone anniversaries, with certain milestones (25, 50) having more significance. My point was only that 35th is no more significant than 30th or 40th, so by the logic presented by many, we should get a new prime every 5 years.

And no one suggested not celebrating... tons of ways to celebrate without releasing a third version of prime.

That being said, since I own every MP except MP1 Gold Luck Draw, I will buy this up like every other one in the past.

The 37th anniversary is more significant, it's prime! Shame on TakTom for missing the 31st anniversary.

If a great figure comes out, I will surely like it and want it but will never own it as it might be expensive. But I will still like people sharing their thoughts about it and watching reviews about it. Sometimes the greatest things in life are the ones you will never get...

Would love if they made a dead version for this new OP. Clear trailer and all. First they need to give us Kup, Arcee and Perceptor to go alongside Magnus, Hot Rod and Daniel.

Speaking as someone who remains G1 Optimus Prime-less and wants to rectify that, I'd love for HasTak to reissue this thing.

    That PINKIMUS PRIME!!!

I really don't like what Hasbro did on the coloring.
Would there be a problem if they applied a shade of red used on MP-10's?
    And the smokestacks gone short?
And they were charging a hefty price just because there's 25th Anniversary labeled on the box.
