I'm weird. I don't like this guy despite his backpack, I like him because of his backpack. To me it gives him even more of a badass mecha vibe. Also, all the transformation panels and seams make him feel like a real robot in the way that they tried with the movie designs. And he's hyper accurate to the original tv show too! It's like, the best of both worlds to me.

In fact, he kind of reminds me a bit of Gundam RM79(G). My favorite Gundam design of all time

 

Hey @Sam sorry just on the road driving all day bro.. nothing really to report sadly from a quick glance.. just a journalistic observation of witnessing prime at the show with a special mention of his waist being exceptional for articulation.
Hound was an unexpected reveal who we will have to wait to find out more on.

I’ve been a little off sometimes on details so maybe the other fellas can confirm or deny these bits of info.

I wonder if these new images were shown to press at the actual show.
This is certainly the calm before the storm until we get the real juice on this guy.

This has probably already been pointed out, but it looks like his pelvis details are solid and most likely painted opaquely when compared to the arm triangles.

 

Yeah, I was kinda hoping those pieces and the roof lights would be translucent, but I'm sure it'll look great painted up. Wonder what kind of yellow they'll use? Maybe even a metal flake? Hopefully we'll get a look next month!

 

I'm more of an Ez8 guy myself, but the Ground Gundam is definitely one of the greats. Like, top two. And I agree, Optimus has that chunky without being overly blocky sort of "ruggedness" to him.

I agree. And, in the long run, if there has to be a compromise somewhere, large backpack is fairly palatable.
I just wonder why the backpack seems so high up in that one picture. Does it have to come up that high when he’s posed that way?

Wow seth already got the first digibash done for the new image. Nice! This is where the mockups help me out...I didn't even realize in the bottom pose, his left arm is positioned away from the camera. I thought the smoke stack we see was actually a weapon that replaced his hand or it was one of his fingers pointing at the camera spiderman style.
It looks like the prototype has a different frosted window instead of the clear one we've been seeing. With as much stuff they have going on behind the windows in both modes, I assumed they'd want to hide it a bit. The head also looks maybe a little different but it's probably the same and just looks different from all the crazy lighting and angles in the pics from the show. I still don't like how he seems to be lit up brighter from the sides that makes his front appear darker. A lot of the show photos were like that as well including that green eye of Sauron backlight they had. IN hand with natural or normal room lighting it'll look a lot better.
Got a little busy at work so I'll have to bring out the gimp to add to the digibashes hopefully over the weekend.

Imagine all the poses possible with such deep knee bend? And how natural all poses will look because of all this articulation? Thinking already about having him and Megatron facing off, what kind of poses to put them in...
