the site has a video clip that shows the fish.

this is why i don't go to swimmin' holes in the South.

Well, you're not gonna keep some 330 pound killer alive for long and wait for it to overpower, escape, and eat you, now are you?

    I wouldn't! :)

When watching this, all I could think of was the time my ex stepdad caught a 40 lb appaloosa catfish while netfishing. The thing must have been 15 years old, its flesh infused with the putrid pollutant riddled waters of the southeast Georgia wetlands, of years of sewage being dumped into our rivers by cities further north like Atlanta and Columbus. And guess who got to eat it, because nothing goes to waste in this house? *shivers*

Can you imagine how awful a 70 year old gar fish would taste?

It's not like alligator gars are rare. They're hunted all the time in Louisiana.

If it was some prehistoric, never seen alive before animal, sure it'd be too bad they killed it. A gar? Meh, that's just dinner.

there's a small river near where i live that i have never wanted to swim in because of fish like this.
that, and the fact that over the years i have been on this earth, people have pulled out more than just a few small gar.
alligators, sharks (yep, sharks) and other critters are in it.

and to make things worse, less than 200 yards away from a bend in that river are a series of ponds with water so dark and deep that we know better than to go there.

i am amazed we still have our monster fish, i am in no hurry to play with 'em.

I lived down in Oklahoma when i was a Kid and these nasty critter were ever where and they were one of two reason you did not go swimming on a pond or lake you weren't familiar with. ( the other being Cotton Mouth water moccasins) .

This one is far larger than any i have ever heard of, and at any rate even the normal sized ones are a serious piece of work. Most cases if you hook one of these badboys by mistake you cut your line as they wreck fishing gear and nets.
