not only that, but hes in North America. And the auction is from North America. Theres DEFINITELY something fishy going on here...
Both my Cliffjumper and Bumblebee were bought at TRU in early 1984 and both were in vehicle mode on the card. Not sure if that was rare or not? Very vague description, "from my late husbands collection" etc usually equals SCAM.
It's already pointed out it's a prerub bee that collectors foam at the mouth over. To each their own. I can't see spending $2600 on a g1 bee.. But hey.. I'm not that hardcore on my collecting.
And the guy who spent $2600 on that Bee probably wouldnt piss on a hanki or a voyager or a chug or anything else other than the mint vintage tf's.
I am probably wasting my time and effort, but I will try to explain. The first series of minibots released in 1984 were released in vehicle mode with autobot faction stickers factory applied. In 1985 the same minibots were released in robot mode with rubsigns instead of faction stickers. Bumblebee was always a popular character and the recent movie releases have enriched this popularity. This mixed with the fact that a 1984 release of Bumblebee in decent condition is one of the rarest and most sought after sealed G1 figures has been the catalyst for the price of the auction in question. There were at least three serious vintage collectors bidding on this piece that are members of TFW. So, believe it or not, this was a price realized from an honest auction with vintage collectors duking it out over a piece that I would love to own. Just not at that price. There you are, next time you are at a garage sale/flea market and see one of these for a buck, don't pass it up for a TF Animated junker. Thanks kids, that one was free
