hard to believe its been that long since that terrible day.

as for me I was at school like millions of other school age kids watching the launch on TV due to the Teacher in space Christa Mcauliffe being on the shuttle, the entire school watched in Horror when the shuttle exploded, at least 30 kids got sent home early due to shock , including my younger brother.

so where were you? share your memories.

I stayed home from school sick that day. I had to go to the mall with my mother, and when I came home and laid down on the couch I first saw the news......

Seems like longer than 25 years though.

I remember seeing it on the news when I got up that morning. All the teachers at my school had brought in newspapers so we could read about it. I honestly didn't think they'd ever send another shuttle up after that.
    I'm glad I was wrong.

I was busy being almost 3 years old, probably whining to my pregnant mom at K-Mart to buy me something.

I was in elementary school and saw it happen in the distance.

Was too young to be shocked.

I was in 6th grade eating lunch and someone came running to say the shuttle blew up. Didnt believe it till I saw the TV when I got home. To see it then was just......unreal.

Watching it on TV with the rest of my second grade class. No Astrotrain jokes though.

I was a 6th grader at the school's cafeteria when it happened. I was glued to the TV like all other kids. It was the most dramatic and devastating event I ever witnessed until September 11 attacks.

Seconded. Watching it on a TV in the cafeteria. I remember the grave reaction of the teachers, which I took as my cue to be silent.

I remember being home for lunch waiting for the launch to happen. I also remember having to go back to school because the launch didn;t happen on time (lunch time).

Now I do not remember if we had a TV or if the teacher shared the news with us but I remember the teacher, I remember the day being sunny and I remember the mood not reflecting the beauty of the day.

I was in 7th grade Earth Sciences class. I don't think they let us watch any of the shuttle launches then. I remember someone coming in and telling us what had happened. I had to wait the rest of the day to get home in order to see it for myself.

I wasn't even thought of yet when this happened, and it still gets to me. I watched Ronald Reagan's speech remembering the Challenger crew, and that brought tears to my eyes. God rest your soul, Mr. Reagan.

But more importantly, God rest the souls of the 51L crew - Michael J. Smith, Dick Scobee, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis, Judith Resnik, and Christa McAuliffe.

I was not around until Oct 1987. My brother was in 8th I think at the time. He was watching it in the gym when it blew up. 86 was also the year that my dad's mom pass away, but my dad told me her reaction. She was always into the space race from the 60's. He told me she cried alot, at levels he had not seen since 63 when JFK got shot.
