They definitely have seen a spike in pricing. I've seen a few end over the $150+ mark and in just average condition.

Same seller also had another one that ended the other week at $172.50.

    Transformers G1 1984 Shockwave Complete & Near Mint!! - eBay (item 180312466147 end time Dec-14-08 19:19:24 PST)

This one (different seller) still has a couple days to go and it already has $145!

    G1 TRANSFORMERS G1 ORIGINAL " SHOCKWAVE " WORKS - eBay (item 250345122338 end time Dec-25-08 17:19:10 PST)

I think one of the reasons is probably people are realizing this character is never going to get reissued officially anytime soon. I'm surprised with all the KO's we've gotten, this one hasn't been done. I still need one and looks like I'm going to have to pay around this price range to get one in nice condition. Yikes. I better get one before the movie sequel comes out and everything spikes further.

It's kind of stupid to bid up to $145 on the 2nd auction unless the seller provided alot of pictures, shockwave is a fragile toy with lots of issues.

Still, I don't think it's hard to get a c9 shockwave around $120 or so, especially if you go with the BIN route, I've seen(and passed) at least 4-5 good shockwaves deal so far, and primary reason is because I already own 2 shockwaves and several parts.
Ever thinking about buying parts in seperate auctions? Maybe get one good shape but without battery cover in one auction, then get another one with good battery cover but bad on everything else. Believe me shockwave can be quite cheap if you just put him together from various auctions.(Where do you think all those TF sellers got their shockwave? And they are selling it for like $150 or so)

Here're two good recent deals on shockwaves, one is not mint, but still good for the price, of course, it's still a gamble even when seller says it's "MINT" :) :

I kind of agree with this.
Seems to me g1 toys has been dropping in price ever since the recession started. Euro dropping could be a reason for this.

i have seen shockwave go for $300 before...about a year ago....

this to me is one of the most desired , best character based G1 Transformers made and designed....

so yeah i can see the demand and the price that demand commands....

i have the shackwave version as i did not want to drop that much coin on a G1 shockwave...not exactly shockwave but he works...i always keep mine in the alt mode anyway...

Wow, that's pretty pricey. I would say "pass" and wait for a better deal. I'm sure you could get one for half that, and the mix and match purchases is a great idea. Now, if it was MISB, $255 is a good price eh?

that depends on what toy your refering to. Some will never go down.

I think the low prices on toys are common these times, Times are harder for most ppl and less bid, have less money to spend. In a couple of years when the economy has gotten back on track they wills hoot up in value again and even worse. Especially none KO:ed and reissued stuff.

I payed 300 for my Shockwave but he is minty and MIb.

It is Christmas time . This is probably some collectors Wife/Husband, GF/BF or family member buying this for them for christmas and have no clue about pricing so they keep bidding. I doubt its a collector bidding that high for him..
