Well this was waiting for me when I got home tonight from work:

Even though it was packaged inside two boxes, one corner was still crushed :(

I love this picture, I call it a 314 page guide to keeping a geek entertained:

The nice part about pre-ordering this set through the Lego store in Burlington, MA is that I got free shipping, No sales tax (since it's being shipped to NH) plus when I bring in my manifest to the Lego store, Ill get $30 in store gift cards.

    Christ! It's already out?!?! Wow!

Benzo, you're right! That IS one thick instruction booklet! WOW!

So Ron, I guess you'll be building this one for quite a while considering it's over 5000 parts and all.

Heck, I should post up my recent Lego deal of the century.

Did it get shipped to you by DHL? There have been A LOT of complaints regarding The Lego Online Shop's current shipping provider recently because many people have received their items with damaged (sometimes heavily) boxes. Send them a complaint. I would, considering how much that item cost you. They really need to switch back to their previous shipping provider (which I THINK was UPS).

Agreed. An awesome (and costly) piece like that NEEDS to be shipped better.

It's not too bad, the one corner the dent is only about 1" on each side, but yeah given the price tag, the box should be prestine on arrival. The odd part is there's no real corresponding dents on the shipping box, to the dents on the lego box, so it could have been from the packing gorillas at Lego.

The cool part about this set, is that it's in scale with the lego minifigures and unlike the other super large lego sets like the Star uses the landing gear to hold it up instead of a frame.

:lolol  I don't think anyone could blame you for making that decision...

I want that thing, bad, but it's just more than I can justify right now. Cool that someone on the boards picked it up though, so you can tell us all about it.:)

Given the number of pieces, the price is actually in line with Lego's typical price scheme ($10 per 100 pieces).

When I first saw it back in March I was very tempted to pre-order it, but I decided not to, then I came across some money I had gotten for christmas the last couple of years and as a house warming gift, which paid for the set. All my bills are paid and I have money saved up so I figured why not.

I estimate it'll take me about 30 hours to put together (it took me about 20 hours over 4 days to put the Star destroyer together). The hardest part will be sorting all the pieces before I start. Sadly I won't be starting it for a while as I have a couple of home improvement projects to finish first.

Damn, $500? That seems awfully steep even for a set that big. How many pieces is it? Almost 5200? Damn.

TOTALLY jealous right now. I've been eyeing that one for a while, but I never have $500 all at once for the sole purpose of just blowing on something like that anymore. Wish it had come out BEFORE I bought the new car a couple of months ago.

The sheer thought of a 25# Lego set honestly scares me.

    What's next?
