Day 8 is off to a promising start. I love 24. Glad the new season is starting.

I thought I recognized that guy Aruz. He was in Season three.

Aye, looks good at the moment, I'm liking the characters. And the new CTU is quite shiney.

I kind of guessed that his brother was dirty.

This show just blows me away. It's very rare that a nine year old show is as addictive today as it was when it first premiered.

I was actually pretty disappointed tonight. The only parts that felt original to me were the first 15 minutes, where Jack is playing Grandpa with his granddaughter. The rest of these 2 hours felt like James Horner's music: it's like the writers took the scripts to seasons 1-7, threw them up in the air, and restructured them in the order in which they fell.

So many moments tonight were directly copied from at least 1 instance in another season.

Looney Bin Jim shooting the guy's wife in the leg is a direct callback to Jack shooting Robocop's wife in the exact same spot.

Freddy Prinze Jr and Starbuck was almost a copy of Tony and Michelle.

President Taylor and the Indian President are just like Presidents Logan and Suvarov in Season 5

    The list goes on.

I'm totally fine with homages. Each time Jack says "damn it" or kills someone brutally, that's cool. Each time James Bond says "Bond, James Bond" or orders a vodka martini, that's cool. I argue that the spoilered stuff that I listed up there is not an homage, but a blatant plot rehash. It'd be like the next James Bond movie having a villain named Silverfinger who plans to infect Fort Knox with radiation. That's not an homage, it's a ripoff.

It just didn't feel like I was watching anything new. It's like the writers ran out of material 1-2 years ago, and new scripts are just cut-and-paste jobs. Like that episode of The Simpsons where Marge had this dress that she changes ever-so-slightly every few days so that people think she has something new.

After last season, I don't blame the writers for having to reach into their bag of tricks from prior seasons to come up with this story. I liked the two hours much more than I anticipated.

I was expecting something big to happen before it ended, but we didn't really get anything very Earth shattering.

Hopefully the next 2 hours will have some big developments. Also hope that Tony Almeda gets brought back into it soon.

OMG! Renee has changed... I did not see that last scene coming...
BTW, it looks like the actress lost weight and is emaciated.

Still no big events happening in my opinion. Nuclear weapons have been covered before.

At least Renee's character seems interesting. And Ortiz is starting to grow on me as well.

The only thing I'm not liking is the sub-plot with Dana Walsh and whoever her ex-boyfriend is.

That's how I'm thinking. Between the fact that she's been going through severe trauma for over a year now, attempted to commit suicide, and they have her wearing black make-up under her eyes, it'd only make sense that the character would've undergone severe weight loss from all that stress.

I don't think it's nearly that simple, or she would have. She clearly is hiding something; I'm pretty certain her past isn't rosey, and that she was a trouble-maker at best back in the day.

My thinking on Dana's character is that she was a whore.

Whenever 24's writers introduce new characters into CTU or the FBI last season or whatever, they always have side issues going on that distract them from their job.

Makes sense, given her "white-trash" sister and ex-boyfriend who almost treats her like he was her pimp.

Judging by the number of replies, I gues there aren't many 24 fans here. Anyways, here are my thoughts as of today:

Is Jack turning soft? He hasn't killed anybody in 2 straight episodes. That has to be a record for him.

The Dana Walsh subplot just plain sucks and is annoying. Please just get it over with!

The Renee/Dirty Russians storyline is the only thing good so far. Even the "peace talk" stuff is getting stale for me.

    Anybody else have thoughts?
