So I was watching the Widescreen version of TF:TM on the new 20th Anniversary set, and it would appear that instead of adding more picture on the sides, they've cut picture info from the top and bottom.

This is evident in two places:

When Prime says :" Now all we need is a little energon...." Jazz and Cliffjumper are no more or less cut off on the sides in either the WS or FS versions.

Second: After Unicron destroys Moonbase 2, when Magnus is standing at the monitor. During that whole scene, Grimlock's head is completely gone. It's there in the FS version.

Is this the way it was initially released in theaters, or did Sony just simulate WS by cropping the picture? It's frustrating, because I'd rather have the whole picture than WS, but the FS version on disc 2 doesn't seem to be restored and color-corrected.

    WTF?

This has been discussed at length. That is exactly how it was shown in theaters. There is no such thing as widescreen version of this film that shows more than the fullscreen. The fullscreen will ALWAYS show more info for Transformers the movie. That is the way it was made.

Please continue all discussion in the official discussion thread above.
