Pretty much just leave it on AMC and SyFy around this time of year, seen them all, but usually I enjoy the Jason marathon the most. Actually put up the halloween decorations in the front yard yesterday. I love being the first on the block to get my decorations up.
I'm jealous smkspy. I don't have a front yard since I live in an apartment, so I just have a balcony. I love decorating it, but no one can really see it since we are on the second floor. As such, all of these cool ideas I have are wasted. Usually I will, but this year we watched it before the new one came out.
Here's the list of my choices for this year: 01-Childs Play 02-Childs Play 2 03-Child's Play 3 04-Bride of Chucky 05-Seed Of Chucky 06-Curse Of Chucky 07-Cube (1997) 08-Hypercube 09-Cube Zero 10-Manhunter 11-The Silence Of The Lambs 12-Hannibal 13-Red Dragon 14-Hannibal Rising 15-The Omen (1976) 16-Damien: Omen II 17-Omen III: The Final Conflict 18-Omen IV: The Awakening 19-The Omen (2006) 20-Eraserhead 21-Halloween 6: The Curse Of Michael Myers Producer's Cut 22-Machine Girl, The 23-Mutant Girl Squad 24-Suspiria 25-Sweet Home
I tend to leave it to chance. Whatever AMC has lined up is an option. I'll also look On Demand and see if there is anything. Turner Classic Movies on demand has been a good source of classics like the Universal films, sometimes the Hammer films (my personal favorites). This year, I have Amazon Prime, too, so anytime I'm feeling the horror itch, I should have multiple avenues. In the area of TV, I can't get into the ghost hunting shows (one can only listen to idiots in night vision saying, "What was that? Did you hear that?" or "It just felt cold right here," so many times before boredom sets in), but I like watching the old reruns of the show "A Haunting." Of course, half the fun of that show was deciphering what *really* happened, because, pretty often, it was pretty obvious there was nothing really supernatural going on.
On Halloween night I watch It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown,Garfield Halloween Adventure(1985) Ernest Scared Stupid followed by Halloween(1978) Throughout October in no order Stephen Kings Silver Bullet Tremors 1&2 Tales Of Halloween Trick 'r Treat Hellraiser 1-3 Halloween 2-5 Puppet Master 1-2 Night of the living Dead original and Remake Return of the living Dead 1-3 Cartoon Networks The Halloween tree 6teen Dude of the living Dead Blood the Last Vampire (anime 2000) Creep Show 1&2 Simpsons Tree House of Horrors specials Hocus Pocus Adventures of Ichabod Crane and Mr.Toad (1949) or just Sleepy Hollow Evil Dead 1-2 and Army of Darkness The Haunting (1963) Monster Squad House on Haunted Hill and 13 ghosts both remakes and originals. And almost forgot Bubba Ho-Tep,Bruce Campbell and Osssie Davis are great in this!! A lot of those have nothing to do with Halloween but Those are what I usually try and watch. And another edit!! Night of The Creeps(1986) have no Idea how I forgot that one.
My school does a horror movie night as a drama fundraiser, and curiously, they acquired Lights Out, a movie that just recently left the theaters. Which sucks, because I lobbied hard to show something like the Universal Monster movies or Phantom of the Paradise. No matter, I'll just watch them at home! One that I put on that list and emphasized was 10 Cloverfield Lane. This movie gives you 2 1/2 hours of that claustrophobic feeling of not knowing what'll happen in the next scene that you only get in most horror/thriller movies in short doses. Also, great performances from the principal 3 actors.
Okay, so far I have already watched: The Visit Mary Shelley's Frankenstein Victor Frankenstein 10 Cloverfield Lane Pit and the Pendulum The Last Man on Earth Friday the 13th Part 3 The Fog Prince of Darkness
A good chunk of my viewings depend on some that I rent from the library and others are whatever is available to watch on Netflix and possibly in Kisscartoon as well as horror/Halloween related stuff on DVD that I do own and the few are just for fun. Please note that the following list (in no particular order) is subject to change and whatever that's in bold are the most definite and/or most likely. The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror 1-6 Garfield's Halloween Adventure Toy Story of Terror Trick 'R Treat Nightmare on Elm Street (1984 version) The Batman vs. Dracula Nightmare on Elm Street films 2-7 plus Freddy vs. Jason The Shining Carrie (1976 version) Carrie (2013 version) Hellraiser Hellound: Hellraiser II Creepshow The Cabin in the Woods Psycho (1960 version) The Thing (1982 version) Alien Aliens Hocus Pocus Dracula Dead And Loving It The Exorcist Jaws Sleepy Hollow Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Species House on Haunted Hill (1959 version) The first two original Halloween films The Relic The Fly (1986 version) Nightbreed: The Director's Cut Event Horizon Cape Fear (1991 version) Beetlejuice The Mummy (1999 version) Hellboy From Dusk Till Dawn Child's Play Misery Night of the Living Dead (1968 version) and possibly a Halloween based episode or two from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and South Park
If I can find my Scooby Doo Where Are You DVD, I will be watching some of that. When it comes to cartoons, I might just hunt down some Courage the Cowardly Dog and the Ed, Edd n Eddy Halloween special (though I'm not sure if there are legitimate ways to watch these.) Horror movie wise, I will see what is on TV because nothing sounds good until I see that it's on.
Scooby Doo on Zombie Island! Can't believe I forgot it. I would say Witch's Ghost but it feels more Thanksgiving, especially since Zombie Island was more straight up horror.
Starting out my 2016 Halloween run: Child's Play: Admittedly, I was spoiled on this movie (and the next two) after watching Nostalgia Critic & Phelous review so most of it I already knew about. But ignoring all the funny jokes from the reviews, this was a decent if not a bit goofy horror movie. Chucky is still not the idiot doll from the next movies so he's still a scary son of a bitch here (some of his screams are nightmare fuel material). Andy's acting is so and so, most of his lines is like he's reading his cue cards in the most monotones tone ever it takes effort to take him seriously. Some effects and animatronics still hold up like Chucky's burned face moving his lips better than when clean, and other times they are noticeably fake looking when Chucky stands next someone. On a side note just throwing this one away: one of my sisters was scared of this movie when she saw it as a kid. Maybe I'll buy a Chucky for her to see her reaction. Anyway, movie: Good. 8/10
Child's Play 2 A bit goofier than the first one and you get to feel that Chucky is kind of an idiot wasting his time hiding until it was too late for him. Andy's actor is better this time and the effects more or less the same. And while the movie as a whole was unintentionally funny, the factory climax was cool. 7/10
My wife & I kicked off our 2016 Halloween marathon last night with Labyrinth & the first ep of Scooby Doo: Mystery Inc. She's never seen anything Scooby so it was a cool first for her. And there was even one moment that startled her! We were going to start with Ghostbusters, but it's still packed away in a box somewhere. If we can't find it tonight, then we'll be watching Lost Boys or Elvira: Mistress of the Dark.
Started my Halloween marathon a bit earlier this year with The Exorcist on Netflix before it got taken out. Also finished The Thing (1982), Silence of the Lambs, two Scary Godmother animated specials and The Halloween Tree. I'm currently watching South Park's own Halloween episode during its 16th season called, "A Nightmare On Facetime." Hopefully, I will be able to watch Psycho later today. After that, it's The Cabin in the Woods, Poltergeist, and The Relic.
