ooh. this might be a good reason to go to botcon. shattered glass......ugh.
He'll be sitting in a dark and grainy corner that looks painterly and gorgeous (save for his hideous face) as long as he's sitting still. As soon as he moves or any action takes place however that whole side of the room will collapse into an indecipherable jumble of dark chaos from which there is no narrative escape.
-ZacWilliam, too on the nose?
A little harsh.
But probably fair.
If I can get some his prints I would love to do so. His art wasn't my favorite for a comic, but I'd love to have some of his stuff as prints hanging in my mancave.
I'm not sure the fact that a person is attending quite makes him a "guest." Derrick Wyatt sometimes attends BotCon all on his own initiative, for example, as has Scott McNeil.
Was I a guest last year? Maybe I should have charged for autographs!
Well, are you the REAL G.B. Blackrock? 'Cause I would totally have you sign my copy of Transformers #9!
Loved his art in the recent Chaos arc. Very fresh, very different.
Obviously this is generating a ton of excitement. Loved his artwork in a "splash page" type of setting with pin-ups and what have you, but it didn't translate in to panel by panel sequences.
If he's the guy that did those really painterly comics, I'm actually glad to see him coming. I love that kind of dark, shaded stuff... really stands out as respectable art when compared with the bright color, no shadows, black outlines on everything stuff we've seen doodled since the creation of comic books and animated cartoons.
Mind you, that stuff has its place, but this stuff is compelling. Same for the GI Joe crossover by Dreamwave. No it doesn't look like the G1 cartoon. It's dark and stylized, and that's fantastic... especially for a limited series.
For some reason, with his art style, I'd love to see his take on Swamp Thing.
I like my comic books to be drawn by sequential story-tellers. But that's an editors failing, not his.
Give this guy covers exclusively and let him shine, and let's make him feel very welcome as a Botcon guest.
Google his art.....i like them...i dont read much of the comics so i dont know what they look....but his pencil drawings and paintings are cool....
His still shots can be quite pretty, but his storytelling is pretty weak, dark and confusing.
Basically he does decent covers, posters and pin-ups but is a bad choice for any comic where you want to be able to follow what is happening and to who without getting a migrain.
-ZacWilliam, his issues of the Tf comic we're pretty aweful storytelling wise...
Oh...didnt know he also writes them too...
Visual storytelling. It's what comic artists do. If they're good at it you can follow the story perfectly in the bare pencils without any words. If they're bad at it then even with the words in the finished product all you have is a jumbled confusing mess.
His art really tended to the later any time it wasn't doing a big static pinup page.
-ZacWilliam, not that it's not something he couldn't work on and improve but at the moment, in Chaos, his storytelling was terrible.
Separate names with a comma.
