As a kid I was actually bummed when I couldn't find Action Masters on shelves anymore. A lot of you newer fans may not remember this, but a lot of us older fans probably do. There was a period I like to refer to as "The Great Shutdown" where no Transformer toys graced shelves.

Nothing compared to that one time I was walking through the local toys R us and spotted the G2 Constructicons. Only one phrase popped in my head. "They're back!!!"

And thankfully, they haven't left shelves since :)

So during this sad sad time, what toys did everyone pick up? I think I bought a bunch of Ninja Turtles and Power Ranger Zords. I think I picked up any Transformers I coule from Garage sales, a dirty ass collector store, and friends as often as I could too

I was in college at the time, and not a toy collector. I did buy a few G2 toys when they came back, mainly stuff I didn't have as a younger'un, like Optimus and Megatron (even though Megs wasn't G1 Megs)

    ... and a used Atari 7800. Good times. :)

I got into lego during that time. Actionmasters and Micromasters were still around until 1991ish. Also, I think I got the Turbomaster, Rotorstorm around 1992. So there wasn't a huge gap.

I think the last toys I picked up around this time was starcoms. I was in my teens so it was awkward to ask for toys and moved on to other things. basketball. and porn. hehehe.

it was when SW SEs came out during college that I noticed toys again. I was like eww whatsup with these beefcake SW figures. luckily there was the affordable action fleet line. I love the vehicles. noticed TFs on the shelves too. I was like eww animal TFs bleh.

only returned to collecting after AOTC came out and discovered reissue G1s in the market.

90-93, i went to value village, and still bought transformers, lol got a nice sunstreaker, half of optimus prime *literally* grey roller, his bigger gun, hook, 2 stunticons, blaster, and many others, they might of not had their parts, but for me, that worked just fine, :)

This is what I owned during that time period:

    G1

    Hun-Grrr
    Strafe
    Actionmaster Treadshot
    Actionmaster Skyfall

    G2

    Skram
    Sideswipe
    Jazz
    Grimlock (turquoise)

That's pretty much all I had as far TF go. Owned a bunch of misc. Xmen, TMNT, GI Joe, and WWF/WCW wrestling figs.

TMNT got me out of Transformers long before 'The Great Shutdown' (I like that!). I also liked the PR Zords because they reminded me of Transformers...but I didn't really buy that much of G2 when they were on shelves...go figure. I also bought the odd X-Men or other Marvel comic action figure.

By that point I would have been in secondary school, so transformers would have been in the past for me at that point, I think I was getting into games consoles and hanging round on street corners and trying to get a girlfriend, heheh

I remember that period distinctly because I was really into Spiderman, Xmen, Batman etc. Those were good times. The funny thing is, whenever someone I knew got ahold of a beat up transformer it was like "whoa, check it out!" as though it was more of a fossil than toy.

G1 episodes began to be re-run at the end of that period to push the G2 toys, but the toys were so rare around my area I didnt get any then either.

Funny enough, we had a toy store named Children's Palace, and they only stopped with TF's in late 92. Around Sept 93 they were back on the shelf. I remember my dad buying me Actionmaster Prime and Wheeljack from there in 92. The store was in the process of going out of business (which didn't happen till 94 I think).

During the brief period off, I just got more Ninja Turtles and Legos.

I carried on collecting TFs. Fortunately, it was one of the few times when we were actually better off for TFs than the States, getting the likes of Overlord, the Motorvators, and the Turbomasters and Predators.
