edit:doing some research, it turns out the copy i read at my school library is a vintage first edition american copy.....as is, if it was in pristine condition (this thing has seen better days), it would be worth $300 lol i read a $300 book

Truly awesome film, and great book. To me, Brave New World has the edge over 1984, purely because the dangers of totalitarian government war-engines is readily apparent, whereas the dangers of rampant consumerism are so much more subtle and insidious.

Much as I love 1984, I love Animal Farm better. Take out the Newspeak element, and 1984 is like the explanatory text for people too dense to get Animal Farm.

This film was actually well done. Not my favorite Orwell book, though, and its themes are too often thrown about in a superficial manner (particularly in ways that are at odds with Orwell's socialist tendencies).

Still, I prefer A Brave New World as it seems much more applicable to the world as it exists and, as a result, much more terrifying.

This is old (in internet-age), but a good summary of that comparison with 1984:

My all time favorite book is Walden but I'd say that Animal Farm is after it. I love all of Orwell's writings but I'd still hold Animal farm above all others. I do love this film though.

My problem with 1984 is just the middle section that basically has to explain everything to the reader. Omit that, and 1984 becomes much better IMO.
