i couldnt sleep much last night and had these add. thoughts on the subject.

with all due respect to 90s kids, im sure everybody will claim 'my generation is teh best evar'. however, discussion on kids consumerism starts and ends with the 80s. for instance, im an 80s/90s rock guy, but i'd never be foolish to claim superiority over 60/70s rock. that would just be stupid and plain ignorant.

so anyway, the 80s right? prior to that 30 minutes tv adverts endorsing merch was a no no. ronald change that. if TF had started in the 90s instead of 80s, i would bet the chances of a revival are less than what we are seeing in this decade. the 80s embrace corporations, big brands; the 90s, wiser, had creative ppl being more tentative. thats why you dont see a proliferation of 90s products - creators licensing issue. in the 80s it was a free for all.

this is not to say the 90s stuff was no good. but the backlash from the freewheeling 80s made sure that the commercial/cultural phenomenon defined by excess would not be repeated. if you saw something on tv in the 80s, you can bet your ass that you could find it on the shelf. it wasnt this automatic in the 90s. its even worse now in the 00s. a lot of properties opt the exclusive outlets route to play safe.

in the 80s, there was no playing save.

And this is why we are allmostsome? slaves to hasbro/takara.

Even if I wanted to cut all connections with TF, I don't know if I could.

Here's how I rank them from best to worst:

    1. Beast Wars
    2. Beast Machines
    3. Transformers
    4. Robots in Disguise
    5. Cybertron
    6. Armada
    7. Energon
    8. Headmasters
    9. Zone
    10. Scramble City

I won't rank Animated until its finished its entire run, but I can tell you right now it already surpasses the #4 slot. Generation 2 is just Transformers repackaged, so I don't count it. All other TF shows I have not seen.

Well I actually prefer Robotech, The Centurions, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors over TransFormers.

Amen. Even though I watched all the other 80's cartoons and eventually got into Centurions/Silverhawks/Thundercats/TMNT (after TF), TF was always the best.

I love G1 alot. Nothing like it since Transformers started. Im particularly in love with Season 3. From Galvatron to the Technobots to the Quintessons, all good stuff. Only when the Transformers came on DVD did I start to like the Season 1 and 2 cast. I came late in the game when I was kid, I only caught the Season 3 re-runs.

I never saw much of the cartoon when I was a kid, apart from the odd episode shown on that Timmy Mallet show. I was more about the comics and the movie during the 80's. So G1 was my favourite franchise then, but not because of the show.

I'd picked up a few VHS through the 90's and 00's that I enjoyed and when I finally picked up the full DVD set, I noticed that there were quite a few subpar silly episodes.

When it comes to the shows, I prefer Beast Wars and more recently Animated. But for the toys and comics it's G1 all the way baby.

No amen from me, G1 as a line is the most iconic and nostalgic but the actual TV series was pretty poor even by 80's standards. There were a few stand out episodes and the movie was great but even as a kid all it all the cartoon was probably my least favorite part of the original G1 line.

It does have its place sometimes. But not every show has that kind of luck. I always took The 80's toons with a grain of salt and a smile.

Samurai Pizza Cats isn't anything at all like TMNT. It's got talking animals that know martial arts, and it has pizza. That's about all they have in common.

Those were my faves of the 90's, RML was very funny

Can't believe it took so many pages to get a mention. Ghostbusters was technically a lot better than G1 Transformers, but TF's mean a lot more to me so it remains my favourite 80's cartoons. Another standout was Thundercats.

I fondly remember all the shows I used to watch as a kid, everybody needs a trip down memory lane now and again. The stuff from your own childhood will always be 'the best' stuff.

Best cartoon of all time? No.
    Best Transformers series? No.
Best giant robots made by Hasbro at the time it originally aired? Hell yeah!

You can have an amen for that last one.
