I got all 98 episodes on the Rhino 5 Box set.

I think this was the best 80s cartoon of all time. I liked GI Joe, He-Man, Thundercats, M.A.S.K.,...........but nothin' beats the Transformers.

    Can I get an Amen?

You forget Starblazers and Robotech. Those had the bonus of actually being written well. :p

The Mysterious Cities Of Gold was way better.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed G1, at the time I was a bit nuts about it, but respectfully, no. Watching the episodes now occasionally make me cringe, while there were some gems in there, like The Golden Lagoon or Webworld, and I still have a special fondness for it, there were better cartoons in the '80s.

Tekkaman: The Space Knight and Robotech for two, spring to mind. They had strong storylines and what was then top notch animation for the budget.

it was sub-decent, and my under developed child mind allowed me to overlook that and love it.

No, you cannot get an amen.

    I'm sorry.

I wasn't alive to compare it to any other 80's cartoons so no amen from me.

90's were the best for cartoons. Shows like Mummies Alive, Beast wars, Gargoyles and more... ah, the memories.

No amen from me either. I like "Mysterious Cities of Gold" better myself.

I wouldn't call it 'best' because Beast Wars beat it for quality of writing and character development, but it's best to me for being my preferred TF cartoon
    series.

Now, if you'd perhaps said the G1 comic was best of all, I'd have been right there with you all the way. :)

Amen. Especially if you only include 80's cartoons.

I do sometimes wish G1 had more of the tone and continuity of the Thundercats cartoon. I've been picking up the TC DVD sets recently and never remembered the show being so competent back when I watched it as a kid.

ThunderCats was awesome too. The 80's had a lot of great cartoons. I still rank G1 the best though.

I wish that Transformers G1 was more like Beast Wars in terms of continuity management and character development, not to mention more interesting stories. The best G1 managed was that it at least had armies of Autobots and Decepticons fighting each other unlike any of the other shows (despite that they couldn't hit shit or kill anyone until the movie).

In terms of 80s cartoons, Transformers had the best concept and execution of that concept compared to say, Gobots, but it still had a lot of faults.

As people have said, Robotech in general, was a much better series.

    Amen Brother.

I'd also like to send the 'well written show' argument to hell - I want to see giant robots battling the hell out of eachother, not some emo mecha crap.
