That's awesome. My Mom worked at JC Penney at that time and I know that she ordered all of my Transformers from the catalog.

It's interesting to see the prices on them also. That was a lot of money for a toy back then.

I just noticed the Diakron robot on the same page as the Transformers. That was one of my favorite toys as a kid,and I've still got it in the box.

    Man those Go-Bots look terrible.

Hey, they actually call the Decepticon jets Seekers here. I wasn't aware they were called that until the days of Dreamwave, so I always thought that was something made up more recently.

These are great. I always saved the old Service Merchandise catalogs when I was a kid, but they're long gone now. Every time I see pictures like these, I wish I'd tried harder to save them. My mother was okay with saving the toys themselves, but packaging and catalogs? Into the trash they went.

This catalog is actually the place that's usually credited with citing the term.

I miss catalogs like this. They were a great place to see all kinds of awesome stuff that you'd probably never have but still wanted. This one actually makes me realize just how much He-Man stuff I actually had. I've got damn near all of the vehicles in that picture with Castle Grayskull - just lacking the red tank and the walking lizard thing.

That is interesting. I'm pretty sure I've read on this very board that the term 'Seekers' was a fan made name created sometime after G1 (but way before Dreamwave).

There's actually a second instance of the term being used in a semi-official capacity back in the day:

Ha, nice! Gordian and Inspector Gadget toys too! (Gordian gets me since the inset is Baikanfu from Machine Robo). And Shackwave! Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing it with us :)

Nice spot. I guess that means it was something coined in the extended Budiansky profiles written for Marvel, like Starscream's "Silver Serpent" nickname. Kind of amazing how it was there the whole time but as you say wasn't really used until the Dreamwave era.

Yeah, that's basically what we concluded back when scans of the catalog were first posted a few years ago (wink, wink).
