Lots of things, but I don't think I can actually answer that without going political.

As for the article... Yeah, they over did it there. I could turn this into a janitor rant, but I won't... (ie. they arrested her to make a statement to the other students so the janitors have even less they have to do)

There's a correct way to handle every situation. That was not it.

LOL. Are they saying they think that it was the girl who hit up all the desks? Walk into any room in the school and several of the desks will have writing on them.

I remember writing on my desk. Someone had started to carve a picture into my senior year English desk... I sketched in the rest for them. No one ever did anything about it. I am an arteest. Or a vandal. At least I wasn't sticking gum under it like other people. Talk about gross. :(

No because then the parents can sue for making their kid do manual labor or some nonsense.

Wow I remember having quite the mosaic on my desk in elementary school. All the teacher ever did was make us wash the desk off. At this rate, in 20 years the head line will read "Student sentenced to death for writing on desk".

I drew spider-man on mine in elementary school. You could see the names of previous students written and carved in the desk. I know I'm old, but clearly things have changed in the last 10 years. Metal detectors in schools kids arrested for writing on desks,...I think the book 1984 was only off by a few years at the rate we are going.

My desk had a Decepticon emblem carved into it. Just a small one in the top right corner.

Wow, that is fucked up. At my school, if you write on the desk all they make you do is erase it

That's just plain stupid. I've written on desks thousands of times. Hell, even drew on them. :p  So you're saying I'd get arrested for drawing a pirate and a ninja fighting a robot dragon with lightsabers? GAY.
