"We would expect" <> confirmation. Highly likely, yes, but for a news site, it's important not to change words like that. At this point it is accurate to say that Hasbro expects Transformers 5 in 2017, rather than confirms it. Nitpicky? Absolutely, but when it comes to news it is certainly warranted.

Confirms the Strategic Plan. TF5 expected in 2017. I've put the "?" to the 2017 part, just in case.

I'm surprised is taking this long considering how frequently they used to release them.

Waiting is actually the smart move, here. The movies came out too fast and the shelves are still clogged with excess AoE stuff.

Yeah. Plus this gives RID and Generations plenty of space to breathe.

    Smart move is right.

Fitting that TF5 will be on the year of the 10th anniversary of the first movie's release.

Well, this didn't come as a surprise in terms of confirmation for the TFCU (let's call it that), but 2017 for TF5? Dang.

EDIT: Ok. I forgot that 2017 is the first movie's tenth anniversary. Nvm.

Was getting a little worried about the 5th film having previously been announced for release next year meaning production would already be underway or about to. Knew of the Cinematic Universe intentions, but it didn't answer the more immediate question of when. Glad it's going forward.

From the writer of Batman Forever, Batman & Robin and Lost in Space comes The Transformers Cinematic Universe.

I'll wait to see how this turns out, but I'm less than thrilled with the choice of Akiva Goldsman.

30 years of amazing canon? Really?
I didn't think 'canon' was a part of their vocabulary.

    Bring it on!

I'm wondering if that Go-Bots movie will be a part of it?

    Battleship?

    ...and Jem and the Holograms?

I've already said this before, but this is entirely redundant. Like DC before them, Hasbro are jumping on "Cinematic Universe" as if it's some magic pot of gold without realizing that it doesn't really benefit the franchise in any way. If you want to make more movies, you're free to include characters from different series if it's in the best interest of the story. There doesn't need to be a cinematic universe to serialize the movies other than to make it look like you're riding Marvel's coattails. Drop the idea already.
