10 Iconic Anime Mecha - Mania.com
2 Gundam on the list voids it. 1 mech per franchise or don't bother.
it is worse then that...
they're both from the same SERIES!
What? No Go-Bots?
(looks at entry number nine; eye twitches)
That blue robot on the left is no Zaku, dammit. No Zaku!
I'm trying very hard not to comment on Top 10 Whatever lists anymore, but I'm surprised that there isn't one robot in there with a lion's head on its chest. That design element is repeated so often, I was certain it would've gotten a nod.
yeah the zaku being there is kinda lame...until you remember how fucking big gundam is in japan. if cool masked characters list was done in the US i could see half the ppl not minding boba fett and darth vader being on the same list, just sayin'.
Why didnt they use a pic of the ORIGINAL Getter Robo?
I guess you could say, they Gouf'd up on that one.
Evangelions aren't mechas. Nor are Transformers, really. Just sayin.
that was just terrible, you should feel terrible
Evangelions most certainly do fall under the category of giant mecha, despite technicalities to the contrary. Though I do sort of agree with you on the transformers though.
Evangelions are human/angel hybrids in armor, with a hole in their head, not really mecha, besides the knightsaber suits from Bubblegum Crisis should have gotten a mention too.
I know people think of them that way, but they're a living organism with armor so they're not really mecha any more than Battle Cat is. That said, I think they deserve to be ranked among the others on the list. Although to be honest these kinds of lists and rankings don't really matter to me one way or the other.
Also, listing "Transformers" in a general sense and two individual Gundams rather a general "Gundam" listing seems silly to me. But again, I don't really care so I'll shaddup now.
Just another "top ten" list to get the fanboys riled up, completely meaningless IMO.
Not to mention having Evangelion clock in at number 2 proves the author has no idea what he's talking about anyway since Eva's are not even technically giant "robots" as they are bio-mechanical in nature and would fall closer to the Godzilla/Gamera/Ultraman monster of the week shows then mecha.
Fail list is all kinds of fail.
The lacking of Patlabor, which to many was just as influential as Gundam proves the list is a failed.
... I always thought that a mecha was a robot that was piloted by a human/other small, fleshy creatures.
Also (and maybe this is just bias talking) but no Big O = fail /
Definitely bias. Big O never really "defined" anything. He kinda fell into his own "cult favourite" niche, but he was never a major player amongst the heavy-hitters listed.
Yeah, I know. He always was one of my favorite mechas though, along with Gundam Epyon. Something about an 'old' mecha always drew me to Big O.
