First off, let me say that I have absolutely zero drawing, painting, modelling or creative skills. But after watching videos on Youtube and reading up on the web, I decided to take the plunge...well, Rodimus would take the plunge. So after one box of RIT Dye and careful dunking, rinsing, dunking and rinsing I was rewarded with, what I think, is a better looking Rodimus. The only pieces removed were the three spoiler pieces. And the blue windshield is a deep grey in person. Enjoy! Sorry for the shadowy pic but I thought it showed how gold the silver and yellow turned out. I hope this doesn't offend anyone here since it took very little skill to accomplish.
I'm kind of getting a Chromedome vibe as a result of the dye job. Also, regarding your "lack of skills", you shouldn't sell yourself short. You'll never know until you try. And it's not like skills can't be acquired through experience.
looking pretty snazzy it must be said. Not tried dye myself, only ever painted but I might try after seeing this.
Black. The only thing I removed was the spoiler. I'll try to get some alt mode pics up in a few. And I'm glad you guys like it. I personally was stoked it turned out so well. Added a few alt mode pics.
I tried to make a Shattered Glass custom by dying and found out this mold just will not take dye well enough to go all the way black. I had your results about mid way through and kept going. He ended up the color of a Christmas sausage wrapper. I'm gonna try again with another Rodimus using red dye, and only dying the hood and roof. Should give me flames more distinct from the background like yours, but in orange as well as purple windows.
I totally agree. There are a great many things that a person who isn't a highly skilled artist can do to their Transformers toys that can result in really cool things. Many tutorials resourced here have that intention. This to me is where things really pay off. CERTAINLY, no apologies are necessary - quite the contrary. I'm really glad you shared your work with us so each of here can share in your delight on what you've accomplished Be careful: it's addictive
