Hello.
A lot of you have noticed a recent influx of new moderators. We welcome GogDog, Shane Anderson, Primal, Dinobot Nuva, and shibamura_prime to the TFW2005 family and thank them for their lengthy records of being active members in the community and being insightful while level-headed in their posting over the years.
We have also noticed an increased interest from a number of posters in what it takes to become a moderator here at TFW2005.COM, so I figured I would write a little something to address that, as opposed to a number of our moderators, Super Moderators, and Administrators having private messages or comments on their profile regarding the issue.
For starters, our recent additions were not decided upon in a few days, or even within a week or two. Well over a month went in to looking at these posters, their posting history, and their overall activity as well as our own personal interactions with them before deciding to offer them the opportunity to become a moderator.
For those who have interest in, at some point, being considered for a moderator position should take the following bits of advice to heart:
- Be active
Being on the forums is what gets you noticed. And when we consider someone for a moderator position, we look at their activity and how active they are, and also where on the forums they are active. "General Discussion" is not the forum of choice to be active in, for what it is worth.
- Don't be "that guy"
We all know that guy. The one that makes snarky remarks to other posters in an attempt to be funny, posting things irrelevant to a thread hoping people will quote their post in their signature. Becoming a moderator is not a popularity contest - just because you have the most friends, or talk to mods from time to time, isn't going to make you a shoe-in.
- Less attention on yourself = better
Let's be real for a second - 9 times out of 10, if you're getting attention from the moderators, it's probably for the wrong reasons. Just post smart, participate in threads, help other posters, and be a GOOD presence. The less attention that ends up on you for the wrong reasons means a better chance of having GOOD attention on you when it counts.
Lastly, if we need/want you as a moderator, we'll approach you. Don't approach us.
There is no application process. There are never any "openings", because we always feel we have the right amount of staff - if we add a new moderator, we felt that the section they are put in deserves more attention.
I hope that helps answer some questions
Future questions can be addressed to any Moderator, Super Moderator, or Administrator.
Thanks!
