Buggy Thread Updates

    I've been having some issues with this site ever since I started using the forum. Whenever I visit the site, any thread that I am subscribed to for instant notifications reads it as if I have visited those threads, and I get a new email when a new post has been made in that thread, despite not checking every thread.

    For example: Say I'm subscribed for instant notifications to the Illinois Sightings thread, and the CW Megatron Feedback thread. I get two emails on Monday, one for each thread, saying a new post has been made.

    On Tuesday, I finally get around to checking the Illinois Sightings thread to see the new post, but I don't check the Megatron Feedback thread. Nevertheless, I get a second email from the Megatron Feedback thread telling me a new post has been made since my last visit to the thread on Tuesday, even though I never went to that thread since before Monday. The only thread I did visit was the Illinois Sightings thread. Now, even if I were to click on the link in the Monday email from the Megatron Feedback thread, it will still take me to the most recent post on Tuesday, forcing me to backtrack and try to find the actual last post I had not read.

    This happens all the time, even when I just visit the frontpage of TFW2005. Regardless of whether I'm in Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or my PC or iPhone, a visit to one page of the site makes it think I have seen all the other threads I am subscribed to for instant notification, and my inbox sometimes gets flooded with notification emails to the same thread that I haven't gotten around to checking. Is there anyway to fix this? I've never seen this problem with any other forum I've used over the years.

    Instant notifications are site-wide, not per thread, so it's working as intended. The system knows your last visit for determining notifications, not your last visit per thread. Sorry!

    I don't know whether or not it will address your issue, but there will be some changes in the near-ish future that will definitely change how some of this is handled.
