$250 is waht I was guessing for the US market.

And anywhere between £200 - £250 for the UK market.

Hm the price is a little higher than I expected: I thought it would be 15 or 20'000 yen. Still, it's not too bad.

$199 should be the price. That will make a lot of fans happy.

Nintendo just bitch-slapped Sony in price! :D  $250 sounds like a good deal. :)

at least they did the reasonable thing...less power = lower price.

if this was Microsoft or Sony, i think they still would of gone with the high price :D

Well, they did say the price would not higher than $250 in North America, not just the US. I believe this includes Canadian pricing, as the Japanese price is suppose to be no more than 25, 000 Yen, which when converted equals roughly around $247 CAN. When converted to USD, it roughly equals $223. Based on this, I can see the Wii maybe selling for $199.99 USD and $249.99 CAN, based on past pricing schemes for gaming machines (always a jump of $50 or $100 between US and Canadian pricing).

This isn't taking into account the recent spikes of the CAN dollar gaining value over the US dollar, or the fact that Japanese pricing is usually slightly more than North American pricing.

These are my thoughts anyway, and what I'm hoping is true. I would love to pay $249 CAN for the Wii, as opposed to $300, which is pushing it a bit I think for what is essentially out-dated technology (they've been charging $299 CAN for the Nintendo home consoles for awhile now, and they've usually been close to top-of-the-line in terms of power). :thumb

Nintendo technically still hasn't given us a price. They've just said that it won't cost more than a certain price.

This is just informed conjecture, but Planet Gamecube points out that Nintendo may be eyeing a package deal, hence the $200-250 range. Supposedly they don't want to put out more than one package ala Sony and MS, so the basic choices would be something like:

    $200- Wii, one controller

    OR

$250 - Wii, 2 controllers, game (like Wii Sports)

If those are the options Nintendo is looking at, choice 2 would be preferable.

And I wonder how much the games are going to cost? Will they still be $50, or will they too go up to $60?

They've said before that no game should be over 50, from what I remember.

For the sake of bringing in new gamers, a Wii Sports pack-in would be a better idea strategically. More non-gamers would take an interest in that.

The most killer possibility would be something like the Power Pad era package: Mario, Duck Hunt, and Sports with the console, two controllers, and a zapper shell for $200 or less. I seriously doubt that will happen though. Just dreaming.

W00t! Wii for the Win! :)

If they're going the MS route and making diffrent packages, they should bundle a version with a game and maybe some free VC downloads.
