I really liked GIJOE retaliation as a action movie with gijoe style action set pieces It hit the mark miles better than rise of cobras complications. It's unfortunate that it got pushed back and put the franchise in the cooler. Darn it Channing Tatum!
poor gi joe. i kinda agree that a semi futuristic take on the series should be the way to go. i think joe needs an update i mean if you wanna appeal to kids who have military dads they're gonna accept a movie ultimate duke over the 80s duke since they dont dress like that anymore. same thing with shipwreck. the bad thing is gi joe has a "gewunner" fan base that just lashes out and goes insane when they make a character look nothing like how he does in the 80s cartoon.
I don't know where everyone gets this idea that the GI Joe movies performed poorly at the box office when in fact they did really well. Not earth shattering like the latest TF movie was but still very well.
Best fastest ways to mix it up with GI Joe: 1) Bring MASK back 2) Go watch the trailer for Captain America 2 or even the whole film - and imagine Cap as your favorite Joe character, black widow as scarlet, shield as the larger joe organization, nick fury as general hawk, and every hydra operative as a cobra operative. Did we see elements of that in Retaliation? Yes, but Cap 2 did it waaaay better. Gi joe has the potential to be as good as the captain america franchise.
oh that's not the half of it...one guy made a sig all about how flint's sleeves are too low on the 50th release and how the concept vault one is the correct version with sleeves over the elbow and a better shade of green for the camo. and because of that the figure being released is garbage.
Example of when I was talking about Steve Austen drinking Cookie Monster style http://i.imgur.com/XpChdb3.gif
WOJM interviewed John Chu and he said the only reason the film was delayed was for 3D and nothing else. That extra scene with Tatum and the Rock playing games was just added in to better show the bond between Duke and Roadblock
Never watched GI Joe as a kid. When I've tried to watch GI Joe today via the movies it just doesn't click for me in any interesting way. I was essentially going in blind to both GI Joe and the Marvel movie universe. The moment I saw Iron Man, Captain America, etc. I was absolutely hooked. I felt for the characters and wanted to learn more. With GI Joe I was so "meh." I don't know how to fix it or what would interest me more, other than saying "make it like Captain America."
I never watched the show as a kid either (though I do feel as if I watched the animated movie at some point). The live movies didnt click with me either, though I definitely didnt hate them. Renegades though (or whatever the newest cartoon was called) blew me away. I really liked how the show's writing and how the references were added in. Somehow it made me feel nostalgic for something I had not ever watched. I really wish they had given the show some sort of sigma 6ish toyline rather than the 3 3/4 line (as much as I do love the joe line)
