I nabbed this guy when I read on the forums that the chances of this guy being rereleased were very slim (I think it was Kickback that mentioned this and his word is as good as gold). The version that was found looks to be the Japanese Car Robots version. The package has the three trains in their "pre-combiner" mode. It took me a while to get them in their robot and train modes. They're surprisingly poseable in robot and combiner mode. They look great in all three modes and are great to fiddle with. If you can find a set, go for it!
Definitely. I have the Rail Racer RiD version. I hear the windows are clear on JRX, but that makes no difference to me. I love each one of the team members, even the terribly misproportioned Midnight Express. Each are incredibly poseable and fun. The weapon integration with their train modes are also a MAJOR plus. Nothing to say about Rail Racer other then it is by far the best combiner ever made. It's stable, poseable and it just looks damn cool Rail Racer, Rapid Run and Railspike all get A++'s and Midnight Express gets an A
think JRX may have some more paint apps as well somewhere, not bothered as rail racer is one of my best display pieces and one of my all time favourite tfs ever nice find dude
Only because JRX's colours are like, 75% paint. Because the figures were molded in clear plastic, most of the train walls and whatnot needed to be painted, or else you have clear trains. Otherwise, the RiD versions have more, with the addition of Autobot insignias, and a few more gold details on Rapid Run.
A very comprehensive information! I'm definitely interested in the lower-end reliable solutions. I now using this.
Rail Racer/JRX is an awesome combiner, second only to Predaking (my all-time fave). I used reprolabel Autobot stickers to mimic the U.S. version.
Zombie thread! While it's up I'll throw in my 2cents. JRX / Rail Racer is and probably always will be one of my favorite Transformers toys. The quirkiness of train alt-modes, the solidity of the combined form, and the fact that as individual bots they aren't half bad either makes this set a total winner for me. These guys were the first real "modern era" TF's that I totally fell in love with and while they aren't perfect they find a really good middle point with all the modes and features.
Defintely a great combiner. Disappointed so many combiners after him were just limb formers so I'm glad they're doing some cool stuff in Transformers Go.
Yup definitely one of my fav post G1 combiner. Also if you look closely at their overall design, they looked like G1 toys with ball joints.
Thanks for the pics..I might be interested in this for my son. so they have wheels on the bottom? Could they fit on those Thomas trackmaster tracks you think?
Poor Astrotrain, he didn't know what was coming to him. Didn't realize he's about the same length as the JRX members.
I sold my Rail Racer a while back, but my son has a few of the Thomas Trackmaster engines. While I think Team Bullet Train may have the correct axle width, their train modes are very long. Plus the axles don't turn either so I doubt they wouldn't be able to follow the curves on the track (my son is 21 months and gets frustrated when he tries to use the trackmaster engines on the wooden tracks and they fall off).
I just bought the Rail Racer version from board member Cagliostro81 the other week, fantastic set of figures. The combined mode looks fantastic, I tend to keep the jets over the shoulders as cannons but thats more a personal touch. One thing that does bother me, the joints in the legs are super loose on my version. So much so that they just collapse under the weight of the upper body. The knees just collapse in on themselves and the foot you have to extend stands no chance. I made a workaround using the gun that pegs in for alt-mode and he'll stand fine but any posing and he falls right over.
Yeah, that's the main problem with JRX/Rail Racer. Legs tend to get loose pretty fast, especialy the knees and sliding parts. Needs maintenance with Future or super glue.
Odd man out here- I just picked thos set up a little while back, and although the transformation is intuitive, it just does nothing for me. The proportions are okay, but the individual bots legs ruin it for me with their overly disproportionate shapes and joint weakness. I haven't even looked at it since the day I bought it.
