I just got my copy of the new TF Generations Vol1. this Friday. My friend shipped it from Tokyo via EMS on wednesday. That is some impressive shipping!!!!

Anyway you guys are missing some vital imformation from the "First Look" thread
    http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/trans...eneration-2009-vol-1-released-first-look.html

after looking thru the book I found these pics in the middle of an interview with three Takara designers. I was able to decipher that this hardcopy is an unreleased Deluxe Convoy. Also if you play "Where's Waldo" you will see the actual Deluxe Prime off to the left, behind Henkei Megs.

Take a close look at the knees and head. the sculpt is very much like Voyager Prime/Convoy but it is definitively different. Plus the height difference is obvious. and NO it is not just a classics prime/convoy prototype.

That would have been cool. Would have made for some nice Pipes and Huffer kitbashes, imo. Too bad it was never released. Would be kinda cool if they retooled it a bit, made a set of armor to fit it, and produced it as a new Powermaster Prime. I can't be the only one who would like to see that.

Oh wow makes you wonder if at one time they planned for the classics line to be all deluxes.

Wasn't Prime originally prototyped smaller to make room for a trailer?

Thank god they scrapped the idea and gave us a Voyager instead. Just too bad that that's about the only example of them UPscaling a figure since they usually downscale everyone else.

Sorry to burst your little bubble but a measley 50 wouldnt cut it. This isnt a simple repaint where the machined mold already exists and cost oh starting around $10k for a small mold.

They need to sell hundreds of thousands of these things before it is even worth their time.

Granted there are exceptions. Such as ehobby's ability to make small numbers of TFs whose molds were not seen for decades. Like ratchet and ironhide were originally ehobby specials. we didnt see encore for like 5 years later.

True vey true I didnt think about it that way. too bad Galvatron got the short stick.

Yeah, if any of you remember what was originally supposed to happen when we first started hearing about the original Classics line was that a deluxe Prime was originally supposed to released in wave 1 of Classics Deluxes. In wave two of the Classics Voyagers the same deluxe figure was going to be released again, but with a trailer. There was also supposed to be a new mold Soundwave released as a Voyager with this Prime as well, but he got canned when they decided to do the TRU reissue instead for the Classics line... Jetfire would have been in wave one with Megatron if this had taken place as originally planned.

At a later convention it was mentioned by Hasbro that they decided to upscale Deluxe Prime to Voyager Class, because Prime "needed to be large" and because "trailer accessories don't tend to go over well and are expensive to produce". This is also one of the reasons why Prime is kind of short for a Voyager... he was upscaled from his originally intended design.

Frankly, even though I've never seen the original deluxe scaled version until now... I've always said this was a mistake. We really need a decent deluxe Optimus Prime and this one would have been excellent to have received in that scale. Oh well... I'm probably just a little biased about that opinion though as deluxe is my favorite scale. A real shame in my opinion. Frankly, they just needed to nix the trailer idea.

Actually, Ironhide and Ratchet were rereleased in japan as a limited exclusive line before the ehobby specials.

Shame they didn't release this one and released the one from the battle pack instead, with an identical transformation to the Voyager mould be probably would have gotten a better looking alt mode
