    My Animated Grimlock arrived today.
It's a very nice figure, quite big, and got a lot of comparisons with the G1 Grimlock.
The sword is very big and cool. I's gotta sort of minicon gimmick in it. When you press it in his hand, the flames pop out. There's a button in his neck that opens the mouth in dinomode when you press it. He's got a lot of posability. Only thing you cannot rotate is his elbow, but you can rotate his underarm, so no problem there. Now a lot of people were wondering if his "dinoknees" were able to slide up into his upper arm. Yes, they can. In the previous photos we saw he just wasn't properly transformed. His robotmouth cannot open. When in dinomode, his chest is open and you can see his robothead. It would be cooler if that was all closed.
I haven't been able to find out if the sword can be stored somewhere in dinomode, but I don't think it can. I also made a pic with Voyager Prime as a height comparison.
I'm off to play again, if you have some questions, just ask.
    Enjoy the pics!!!

    UPDATE: some new request pics

comparison with deluxe Prime and a G1 Slag junker

The sword gimmick: When you attach the sword into his hand, the flames pop out. The slide in the middle of the sword turn the flames back in.

Here you can see the tiny button that triggers the flames, kinda like the minicons.

Nice review and pics. Thanks for those.

Being able to see his robot head in dino mode is weird. Seems like there should be a flap there or something...

Kinda sucks that Grimlock's out of scale compared to Prime, but awesome nonetheless.

Neat, but OUCH that open chest in dino mode is terrible. He seems too small for a voyager to me too.

Are you sure there isn't a part missing to cover his head? That seems like a huge oversight in the design if that's the way it is, there looks to be plenty of room to fit a covering flap in there somewhere.

Mine will be getting modded if that's the case.

Cool. He may be a little short, but like Bulkhead and Lugnut, he makes up for it with bulk. The open chest cavity in dino mode is a bit disapointing, but not something that'll stop me from getting him when he comes out. Just curious, any chances of a size comparison with a non-Animated figure? Classics Grimlock would be a great choice to compare this figure with, imo. It's really awesome that we're getting all these Animated reviews, but it's hard to imagine something when you don't have anything to compare it to. Thanks if that's possible. I'm hoping that we also get an Activator version of Grimlock in the line at some point.

Looks to me like Grimlock is about the same size as voyager Megs.

Very nice, though i kinda wish the maroon was more red.

AWESOME! Glad he got there safe and sound!

He a little shorter than my calculations led me to believe based on previous photos, but still looks full of awesome, glad to hear I was right about the dino knees sliding up to shorten in robot mode.

If the flames pop out when you place the sword in his hand, what is that lever on the side for? Does it reset the gimmick once you remove the sword? I imagine they don't automatically retract or the force of the spring would pop the sword out of his hand.

Still, cool figure! Can't wait for mine to get here!

Whoa! He looks amazing! With the corrected elbows he looks so badass now, I'm truly impressed with this mold.

Who can remember all the abuse TF animated was getting when it was first revealed? ;)

Every figure is a win, even Black Arachnia is awesome and I am a dedicated beastformer hater ;)

I don't know how much longer i'm going to kid myself.
I kept saying that I wasn't going to collect Animated Toys.
I was just going to watch the cartoon.
    But these guys are awsome!
The matte paint apps are wonderful.
The articulation and design are spot on.
These guys are great representations of a highly stylized cartoon without losing any of there transformery goodness.

Can you just turn the head around 180?

Also, Voyager Prime must be HUGE.

    He's a decent size, I wouldn't call him huge.

    great.

im still hoping the orange parts will be painted metallic like the detailing in the final? versions. the exposed head is a bit of a let down considering how much thought has gone into getting this design looking good. The Transformation is so G1 even with the 'raising' the dino-chest bit!!

Can we see a couple images detailing the sword gimmick?
